Genesis Rhapsodos Character Profile from the Crisis Core Ultimania

Posted on November 22nd, 2008 at 12:47 AM by Makoeyes987

And rounding off our release of translations from the Crisis Core Ultimania today, is the character profile for Genesis Rhapsodos, the mysterious 1st Class SOLDIER of Crisis Core.

Genesis Rhapsodos
The young man who compared himself to a hero of an epic poem and revolted
against the world.

Age: Around 25
Weapon: Rapier
Hometown: Banora Village
Voice Actor: Gackt Camui

A SOLDIER 1st Class who possesses combat abilities that rank equal to Sephiroth’s, and who adheres to his own personal aesthetic. He takes pride in the handsome figure he cuts, his magnificent fighting style and the enthusiastic popularity it garners him, however he does not like mingling directly with people, and only opens himself up to his companions Sephiroth and Angeal. But after the day he suddenly disappeared with a large number of 2nd and 3rd Class SOLDIERs, he is at the forefront of a rebellion against ShinRa.

The young man who idolizes “Loveless.”

A researcher of the classical epic poem “Loveless” – this is another face of Genesis. The protagonists of the poem are a trio of young men searching for the enigma of “The gift of the Goddess,” and Genesis wishes to continue this quest. Readers are divided over the mystery of the “gift” which he wishes to solve not only to deepen his understanding of the poem, but also to find the answer to questions he has about his own life…….

Genesis believes that the protagonists of the story correlate with himself and his two friends.

His disagreement with Sephiroth

As for how Genesis regards Sephiroth, it is more than they are friends who get along well, outstripping that feeling is the idea that they are worthy rivals. Originally for Genesis, it was the heroic actions of Sephiroth – a SOLDIER who is around the same age of him – that inspired him to join the organization. However, after he defects from ShinRa, Genesis tells Sephiroth, “I should have received your fame.” For Genesis and Sephiroth, it seems that there is something connecting them from before either joined SOLDIER.

He challenges Sephiroth to a fight in the Training Room due to the antagonism he feels, but gets hurt. As his wound is being treated, he learns the secret of Sephiroth and himself.

Crisis Core Complete Guide Keyword Collection

Posted on November 18th, 2008 at 7:30 PM by Makoeyes987

Today we feature translations from the Crisis Core Complete Guide, specifically, from the Keyword Collection which explains and defines certain plot points and terms from the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. Enjoy!

Angeal Copy

Subjects of the copy technique where Angeal’s cells were used. Within the game, this includes a variety of monsters and Lazard. When using monsters as the subjects, they were unable to take on Angeal’s form, and instead an image of Angeal’s face appeared to be grafted to a part of their body. Incidentally, though not all of the Angeal Copies that appear in the game are monsters, Angeal’s cells were used primary to make copies from monsters while Genesis’ cells where never used to make copies from monsters.

Furthermore, Angeal Copies do have an ability to call to one another, but they can only have a general understanding of each other’s situations. An example of this ability is how Lazard was able to coax the Angeal Copy living in Aerith’s church to come help him in Banora.

Biorhythm-Testing Materia Equipment

Designed to work in the Virtual Reality System’s cyberspace, this materia works in tandem with the examination equipment. To facilitate Hojo’s observations, a compatible Fusion Chamber had to be built. As it is full of highly specialized equipment, the amount of money needed to repair it after it was damaged by Sephiroth, Genesis and Angeal would cost an amount equal to 24 months worth of Zack’s SOLDIER 1st Class salary.

Chocobo Racing

Competitions, both professional and amateur, that allow people to race their chocobos. In FFVII and BC, the Gold Saucer professional races pit six riders and their chocobos against each other.

Cloud and Tifa

Cloud and Tifa are childhood friends, both born in Nibelheim. When Cloud leaves the village, he calls Tifa out to the water tower and promises that he will become a SOLDIER. At the same time, he is also made by Tifa to promise that he will come to rescue her if she is ever in trouble.

Following this, the pair experience many hardships, such as the Nibelheim incident which also appears in CC, and the Jenova War in FFVII, and through these the distance between them shortens. And in AC they live together, with Barret’s daughter Marlene and a boy named Denzel. Though there was also a period later where Cloud lived away from them after having contracted Geostigma, they finally reach a commune with each over and return to living together once again. In DC, they rush together to Vincent’s aid, in his battle against Deep Ground SOLDIER.

Final Fantasy VII Series Terms and Definitions

Posted on November 17th, 2008 at 11:09 PM by Makoeyes987

And here are more translations from the Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary Ultimania, this time on the plot and FFVII world concepts. Enjoy!

AVALANCHE

「 FFVII – BC – CC 」

An organization formed by scholars of planetary life in Cosmo Canyon, who opposed ShinRa’s mako usage. They were headquartered in Wutai. At one time they were a massive organization who posed a threat to ShinRa, but internal rifts and the assassination of the leader lead them, for all practical purposes, destoryed. Impressed by AVALANCHE’s ideas and actions, Barret took the name of ‘AVALANCHE’ and formed a new anti-ShinRa organization.

WEAPON

「 FFVII – BC 」

For the sake of planetary self defense, “Things The Planet Deems Evil” are removed from existence. After Jenova, the “Calamity from the Sky” was successfully sealed, they slept stretched along the Northern Crater. However, when Sephiroth summoned Meteor, the crisis awakened the planet’s judgment of danger. Humans were “Deemed Evil by the Planet”, and various places were attacked.

· Sapphire WEAPON:
Swimming in the sea, the WEAPON in lapis lazul. Once it has found its mark it opens its mouth, it releases a concentrated beam of radiation.

· Diamond
WEAPON
:
Slowly advancing over the ground, the shimmering silver WEAPON. From its shoulders it can free an infinite number of flares.

· Ultima WEAPON:
Wandering the heavens at amazing speeds, the jet black WEAPON. When it departs, it fills the air with high-density energy.

-=Supplemental Info on Ultima WEAPON from p. 386 of the FFVII UO=-

Where is the Ultima WEAPON?!
After the Crater’s barrier disappeared, Ultima WEAPON, which was previously fought in Mideel, materializes on the World Map and continues to be engaged in further combat from here. However, apart from the final battle stage being set in the Cosmo area, it cannot be defeated and will fly away and escape halfway through each fight. After being hit many times, it is necessary for Ultima WEAPON, which has been flying in the sky, to stay still in a location it decides on. Hence, if you’re asking what can be done if the main/important opponent cannot be found, the only option is to wander the World randomly searching for it.

· Ruby WEAPON:
The Ruby-colored WEAPON lives in the desert area. It lies in wait, and attacks with its extremely hard shell and its two huge, body-length tentacle hands.

·Emerald WEAPON:
With the appearance of a suit of armor, the blue-green WEAPON moves unseen through the deep sea. [In the Battle] It shoots beams from the eyes on both of its shoulders.
-=Supplemental Info on Emerald WEAPON from p.385 of the FFVII UO=-

Pay Special Attention to the Green Body

In the International version, stalking the seas is an enormous green object. They approach thinking that it is ShinRa’s submarine . . . . . and suddenly you’re thrown into battle, and realize that its true form is actually Emerald WEAPON. Thankfully, escape is possible. However, for this moment/situation, wanting to explore this situation and selecting to battle it is just the true nature of the situation.

Making a sound like ‘puchi’ [while attacking in battle], the image of Cloud and his party being heavily smashed comes to mind.

· Jade WEAPON:
A WEAPON that looks like a fighter plane. It flies throughout the world, calling upon its Clusters to bomb its targets.

-=Supplemental Information on the WEAPON Mode=-

WEAPON Mode officially takes place between the two months between the release of Zirconaide and the start of FFVII (0007/10/05 – 0007/12/09). The playable Turk is informed by Verdot that the Jade WEAPON is attacking members of the renegade Turks. Because the organization eliminated Zirconiade and thus upset part of the Planet’s ecology, Jade seeks them out since it considers them “bad for the planet.” In this way, the playable Turks are essentially fighting for their lives against the WEAPON.

The location of the fight with Jade WEAPON is determined by the player’s location in Japan:

Midgar – Tokyo
Junon – Kanto area, other than Tokyo
Costa del Sol – Southern Honshu, Shikoku island, Kyushu island.
Cosmo Canyon – Central Honshu
Wutai – Kinki Area (Osaka and Kyoto area)
Icicle Lodge – Northern Honshu and Hokkaido
