Hitoshura has translated the “Link to the Original: Final Fantasy III” section of the Dissidia Ultimania! Enjoy reading the translation on the last FF for the NES.

FFIII was the final FF title for the NES. But even with the passage of time it hasn’t lost its charm, which Dissidia FF is filled with.

– The pose the Onion Knight makes in Destiny Odyssey when leaping towards the Cloud of Darkness is based on FFIII’s cover illustration of the Warrior of the Light. He also makes this pose at the end of his EX-Burst “Ninjutsu”. The two swords he has during his EX-Mode are also the ones from the FFIII cover illustration.

– In Shade Impulse C2-3, when fighting the Cloud of Darkness with a character other than Onion Knight, before battle she says, “I will cause a flood of darkness, and return this world… and your world to the Void.” This is roughly the same as the dialogue in FFIII when facing the Cloud of Darkness. In FFIII, she was revived due to the flood of darkness, and tried to return both the worlds of light and darkness to the Void.

– Onion Knight’s EX-Burst replicates FFIII’s battle screen even down to the smallest details. Let’s take a look at them, from the things you can notice at a glance to the ones you might not notice if you don’t look carefully.

EXAMPLES OF ELEMENTS IN COMMON WITH FFIII
– When entering the commands, Onion Knight steps forward one step.
– Onion Knight’s pose when entering the commands replicates the pixel image of the Ninja and Sage, with the Ninja facing to the side, and the Sage at a slight angle.
– The contents of ‘Throw’, ‘Magic’, and ‘Item’ are all things which appeared in FFIII.
– When battling Cloud of Darkness, her pose is the same as the final battle in FFIII.

When their turn to enter commands came up, the characters stepped forward one step.

Even in the Item list, which you don’t need to select during the EX-Burst, features items which appeared in FFIII.
[The items Onion Knight carries are- Gysahl Greens; Gnomish Bread; Potion; Sheep Pillow; Earthen Drum; Mallet, Gold Needle, Turtle Shell]

– Each of FFIII’s jobs appear in the Player Icons, but the Ninja and Sage cannot be obtained through the PP Catalogue, and must be unlocked by completing certain missions. In keeping with having being sealed away in Eureka, the Forbidden Land, in the NES version of FFIII, obtaining them is not easy. In FFIII, the Ninja and Sage jobs were exceptionally powerful job classes. And in Dissidia too, the Ninja and Sage Player Icons are proof of how much you’ve mastered the game.

– The Play Plan help features a gnomes from FFIII. The line, “If you go all the way around the world… maybe I’ll give you some bread or something?” is a reference to having being able to get some Gnomish Bread if you went all the way around the floating continent on a chocobo.

– The Status and Customize help features the Scholar from FFIII.

Battle Voice Pick Up

Hwahwahwa!” — Cloud of Darkness: using ‘Wave Spheres’, etc.

Link: Cloud of Darkness’s characteristic laugh from FFIII. This laugh also appears from time to time in cutscenes, such as in Destiny Odyssey III-4.

When the world is out of balance, once again…” — Cloud of Darkness: defeat

Link: The Cloud of Darkness appears when the balance between light and darkness is broken. In FFIII she awoke for the first time in 1000 years, and appeared before the Warriors of the Light.

Interesting stuff, specially the bit how Onion Knight’s Ex-Burst replicates FFIII’s Battle Screen.

I had noticed some of the details but failed to notice some others.

I’m more surprised that you’re actually able to choose the item command and see various items in said menu despite it doing nothing in the game. Talk about attention to detail. XD

Wait. Is this what everyone says when they mention the Onion Knights going by the names of their DS counterparts in Dissidia’s Ultimania?

… Those are screenshots from the fan-translation by Demiforce…

No, the actual Japanese scan of the Dissidia Ultimania had the Onion Knights named after the characters in the DS remake for FFIII. Rather than just use a cruddy, non-translated scan, we used the screenshot from his remake that did the same thing, since that’s what S-E did as well.
