Link to the Original: Final Fantasy VII- p. 530 of the Dissidia Ultimania

by February 3, 2009 0 comments

The Dissidia Ultimania is out and I’ve got my copy. And with that, translations of the information contained therein begin!

At the end of each of the 10 main chapters, there’s a “Link to the Original” which corresponds with the respective numbered Final Fantasy. Today we open up with the end of Chapter Seven, which subsequently gives us the “Link to the Original- Final Fantasy VII” and highlights the references and connections to FFVII that are contained in Dissidia. Major thanks to Hitoshura for his hardwork translating this, enjoy and expect more soon!

Settings and numerous other features are referenced not only from FFVII, but its continuation, “Final Fantasy VII Advent Children (aka, FFVII AC)

– The fight between Cloud and Sephiroth in Destiny Odyssey VII-5 is based on the final battles of both FFVII and AC. The scene when Cloud dives down and Sephiroth knocks him back is based on the scene where Sephiroth appears in AC. The camera work when close ups of their faces flash on the screen is the same as their final duel in FFVII. Cloud and Sephiroth’s dialogue are also based on FFVII and AC.

– After defeating Sephiroth in Destiny Odyssey VII-5, or when he wins a battle, Cloud states “I’m going to live in my reality.” This dialogue comes from FFVII, where he regained his true self, leaving his fake identity as an ex-SOLDIER behind, living as who he really is.

live-without-pretending

– In Destiny Odyssey VII-3 Tidus called the Buster Sword heavy, to which Cloud replies “It’s not a heavy sword. It’s an important sword.” The Buster Sword is a memento of Zack, Cloud’s deceased best friend in FFVII.

– In FFVII, Cloud had to dress as a woman. Those items appear in Dissidia as the ‘Cross-dressing Series’ of items (Sexy Cologne, Member’s Card, Blonde Wig, Silk Dress). The Combination Abilities from using all four at once, ‘Honey’s Charm’, is based on the ‘Honey Bee Manor’ of FFVII.

– At the start of Shade Impulse C3-2, Sephiroth talks about “the soul leaving the body and becoming one with the planet, as spiritual energy“. This reflects the concept of the Lifestream.

– Cloud’s dialogue during Shade Impulse C4-1 is from FFVII, before the battle with Rebirth (Bizarro) Sephiroth.

– In the Battle Rise help, Red XIII trying to act grown up comes from his attitude at the start of FFVII.

– In the Battle Rise help, Yuffie’s use of “of course~” is her dialogue from when she wins in the Pagoda. Also her “All I have to do is…a little this……and a little that……hee, hee, hee……” is what she says to herself when she joins Cloud’s party.

Battle Voice Pick Up

Not interested.” — Cloud: start of battle

Cloud’s signature line. In addition to appearing in FFVII and AC, he also says this line in Dissidia’s ending.

There’s no getting off this train…” — Cloud: when defeated

In FFVII, Barret said this phrase: “There ain’t no gettin’ offa
this train we’re on.

Editor’s note: This line and reference was unfortunately completely lost in the US/EU release of Dissidia. The line in the Western release is “This isn’t the place to stop.

If I win, are my sins forgiven?” — Cloud: battling against Cloud.

Cloud continued to regret the deaths of his best friend and comrade, who were dear to him, in FFVII. In AC, he says “I want to be forgiven.

Stop pretending you’re sad.” — Sephiroth: attaining victory.

Comes from his dialogue in FFVII to Cloud, who is saddened by the death of Aerith: “Stop acting as if you were sad. There’s no need to act as though you’re angry either.

I will never be a memory.” — Sephiroth: attaining victory

From AC. Said as he disappears to Cloud, who told him to “stay where you belong, in my memories.

I want you to beg for forgiveness.” — Sephiroth: start of a battle.

Dialogue from AC, during his fight with Cloud. He also says it to Cloud in Shade Impulse C3-4.

Great work! I haven’t played dissidia yet so it’s nice to read references to universe of FF7. Those items from Wall Market surprised me O_o

Those are great, thanks. Still I think my favorite (probably due to its relative obscurity) is “There’s no gettin’ off this train…”

Still no “Let’s mosey,” though :'(

    It should also be added

    Dissidia (first one)
Sephiroth: You Ignorant Traitor (long intro. cloud = player vs Seph)

    —–(SPOILER)—–

Sephiroth calls Cloud (Zack) a traitor during the Nibelhiem flashback. Seph also considers ALL of humanity to be traitors to the Cetra (what seph believes himself to be)
