Sakurai’s voice fits perfectly with Cloud’s character and I know most of you will agree. Steve Burton’s voice for the English version is fine by me too. If we are to compare the scream Takahiro Sakurai and Steve Burton did at the end of Crisis Core, I honestly prefer Sakurai’s because I felt more emotion into it than Burton’s, maybe because Sakurai, just as he confessed, really is attached to Cloud’s character and he really gave his all into that scream. But I’m not saying that Burton sucked. It’s just that Sakurai did much better. English dubbed anime issue, I’ve watched a bunch of it, and honestly, I couldn’t take it. Even if I have no watched the original Jap audio of the anime before the English, I would find the English voices gay. I sometimes prefer our local dub over the English ones because for me, it’s much better. But I have no problem with the English dub of FF VII. SO THERE

I liked the scream just fine too. ^^

It doesn’t really matter what language just who in your opinion displays the character best. Like I enjoy Zack’s english VA over his Japanese one, but for Aerith, Maaya is the perfect fit when Mena….she can just gtfo. T_T

I never understood what people had against Steve Burton’s Cloud scream at the end of CC. It sounded fine to me. Probably because oh no, I actually prefer English dubs over Japanese ones.
But the wapanese will diss anything English. Even if they can’t understand what the Japanese are saying.

I’m a fan of Japanese VAs and honestly, I don’t really like the English VAs because they sound a bit off from the Japanese version.
IMO, English Cloud sounded too American but I guess it something I got used to.

The scream at the end of CC … ^^; it become un-Cloud-like…too high pitched?

Somehow, I just felt that only a handful could actually live the characters and make the English dub as enjoyable as the Japanese version. Most of what I heard sounded like they were really “voice acting” instead of trying to bring life to the characters. Even so, saying it all here means nothing if none of the VAs are reading it.

I guess they should try to not hold back while recording. That’s what I felt from the Japanese VAs. They become the characters and just scream as if no one is watching.

You’re missing the point. It’s not about me thinking that they’re “perfect”. People are free to criticize the English VAs, but it really helps if they were less vague about it, because all I see is “DuB5 suK11!!! 5ubS r00l!1one!” and “eYE h4te dAh dUbS1!11! dAy jU5 sUk 3nd 0F 5toRy!11eleven1!”. That’s it. No intelligent, constructive criticism in sight. Just a bunch of morons spamming messageboards and giving people who love dubs a hard time.

I just want to clarify something. First of all, when I use the term “Japanophile”, I mean people who blindly love and worship ANYTHING about Japan and bash great English VAs that dub anime and Japanese video games for no reason, other than being bias. If they had the chance to somehow unlearn English and instantly know how to speak Japanese fluently, they’d do it in a heartbeat. There’s a clear difference between appreciating Japanese culture and worshiping it, mainly because you love its anime and video games.

Now, there’s no doubt in my mind that after reading this interview, Japanophiles will bash Steve Burton (who is the English voice actor of Cloud, if by any chance you didn’t know), because he didn’t know about Cloud prior to KHI the way Sakurai did. A couple of people bash him now, because of one scream he couldn’t pull off at the end of CC. They’ll find any small mistake as “proof” that English VAs are inferior to the Japanese VAs. Give me a break…

This is pretty awesome. I’ve always thought that Sakurai was a great voice for Cloud, but I hope this doesn’t mean that people will bash Steve Burton (he also does a great job) and English VAs, in general, because something like this would somehow urge Japanophiles to attack them for no reason.

Oh boy, this is probably the 3rd time I reread this…a new major view towards these Japanese Seiyuu, they seems to put in so much though into their own character, is so professional..and I mean…come ON!! 6 hours straight of just doing “those” sounds!? that’s hardcore, and I feel sorry for him to have to go through that…probably more then just a day of 6 hrs…*sigh*
