Annoucnment regarding Social Groups: Use em' or Lose em'

With the dirth of activity and usage of Social Groups here, coupled with a large number of groups that have been created without even being utilized, a new rule will be enacted to manage the social groups and bolster up their activity. :monster:

Groups that have no activity for 3 weeks or more will be baleeted. If your group is inactive, it dies. So if you make a group, please bear in mind that you actually have to sustain it and get people to join, otherwise its just taking up space.

Natural selection shall be the determinant of whether this hack even stays. So please, use it. Or don't. :awesome:

So... what are the rules for groups? Can anyone make one? I know I couldn't have a Cloud abuse Club but what about a group? There seems to be some people interested in it and I'd have made it by now but I don't want to piss any of the mods off.

Same rules apply to social groups pretty much. And forum rules as well. :monster:

The only difference is that you can make social groups beyond the topics of Final Fantasy and shit.

I still don't get the rule against "hate groups." No one's ever really explained why they'd be bad for the forum. I don't remember them causing any drama on ACF, at any rate.

a lot of things aren't "constructive." Are they destructive though? I haven't really seen any evidence as long as they don't devolve into irrational shit-flinging.

maybe labelling "hate threads" is the wrong way to go about it, maybe they should just be "dislike threads" or something.

Well they certainly didn't help on acf, and caused some drama at least a couple times if I remember correctly.

They're not constructive in the least and rather inane and stupid. A club based solely on negativity doesn't generate intelligent or positive discussion and the hate clubs on ACF did generate drama and stupidity. If you remember the shit regarding the "Anti-Cloud/Tifa" clubs and the "Tifa the slut" clubs, it was really nasty and pissed people off. Trolling happened en mas. They're just not needed and we already had that rule when this place started. There's no need to open that can of worms. If you want to talk about what you don't like or whatever, start a discussion about it. But a club where you just all hate on something is unneeded and pretty crap for the forum.

They're just not happening nor necessary. If you seriously feel the need to make a club over something you hate you probably need to do something more constructive and interesting with your time. :monster:

I must not have been around for any of that drama. I agree that there's a line that can be crossed, and those threads probably would've been crossing it. What irks me is that whenever people start discussing reasons they dislike a character though, there are threats that a thread will be shut down. Threads that are well thought out, though, "I dislike Sephiroth because he's a prettyboy who goes crazy for no credibly defined reason and has a veiled Oedipus complex" or something, shouldn't be shut down as long as they're not descending into outright absurdity like "Tifa is a slut".

Basically, it's not very clear where the line stands right now, but it looks like they're far too stringent. Most people here are grown up and should be able to handle a little criticism of their favourite characters.

There's nothing wrong with discussing your reasons for not liking a character, but basing an entire thread on the hate of one specific character is a bit too much if you ask me.

Well we're not saying you can't talk about what you don't like or say you have dislike. Like...in the Sephiroth thread, or the Lucrecia thread. The reason I brought that point up in the Lucrecia thread was again, with MOG saying "she's still a bitch" I thought that he was being snarky and just bashing her character for lulz in the discussion. I know he wasn't *now* and all, but I didn't think it was that big a deal anyways. I wasn't gonna close the thread, I just said to say more than "X character is *insult*". I wanted there to be more discussion and commentary than that. There just needs to be more content to a thread or topic than just insulting and calling X character pejoratives and rping that you're torturing them and shit. It's immature and inane. Discussing what you don't like and what not is fine. That's encouraged.

As long as they don't get ridiculous about the reasons cited for disliking a character I don't see any problem with it. A general dislike thread does kind of serve a similar purpose but it's a bit harder to keep it on focus and people might not debate the strengths and merits of a specific character as thoroughly. Again though, what irks me most about the rule is when threads that weren't started as hate threads, but to discuss a specific aspect of the plot, receive shutdown threats for turning into "hate threads". If a discussion goes a certain way, let it. It's the natural course of discussion on a message board. As long as people aren't flaming over it, I don't think it's much of a big deal.

If a discussion degenerates into a discussion about why they hate a character, when it's not made about the hate of that character, isn't that off topic discussion anyway?

Not really, if the character is part of the discussion. And even if a thread does go off topic as a natural result of the debate contained within it, does it really matter? Forcing people to start a new topic wouldn't flow as naturally; a lot of times, people just cba, as evidenced by that DMC discussion the other night.

I see your guy's point, but what I'm going for is not just people saying "Cloud sucks!" but I want people to post pictures, videos and games et all of Cloud getting abused (like my Cloud abuse game) or pictures of Sephiroth winning the fight or stories or what have you.

Regardless of having your permission to do this here or not, I am going to do it, I just thought that this would be a good place to start it to bring people in.


also... there was a Tifa's a slut club and I missed it? :(

What threads are you referring to, Aaron? I only remember doing that to the one thread that *was* opened as a hate thread that degenerated into people just saying they hate X character from FF with no discussion as to why. And I did that so there'd be more discussion and less "I HATE X" and crap.

And yeah, I was just referring to MOG. I guess I should've specified but I just wanted to let everyone know to continue intelligently debatnig like they were. That's all.

...What have I been saying? A club based on torturing Cloud is silly and ridiculous. I just said, a club/group like that is unnecessarily negative and ridiculous. That's not allowed and is essentially the same thing. If you want to show off your creative stuff then do it in the creative section like everyone else. But go make your club else where.

If the discussion becomes solely about the hate of that character then it is off topic if you ask me.

I'd say it matters, isn't off topic discussion considered spam? DMC discussion wouldn't have lasted long either way.

Only when there's no substance to it, as far as I was aware. If off-topic discussion that legitimately flows from the original thread topic is spam then most of us have been spamming a shitload.
