Shinra victorious in battle of Final Fantasy militaries

by March 25, 2013 0 comments

Earlier this year, Lifestream forum members nominated 32 sides they considered military forces from the Final Fantasy series. Those forces have since been fighting it out in a knockout-style tournament, which ended on Sunday. There was no easy route for either of the finalists, with Shinra Inc. going up against the likes of Final Fantasy VIII’s Esthar and SeeD, and their opponents Alexandria taking on Final Fantasy XI’s Federation of Windurst and Final Fantasy XII’s Archadian and Rozarrian Empires.

There could only be one winner, however, and as you may have deduced from the title of this article, that winner was Shinra Inc. The organiser of the tournament, Ghost X, wrote this report for us.

Winner – Shinra Inc.

Competition record

  • First round: 12 votes to 1 against the AVALANCHE Ravens (Final Fantasy VII). As pointed out by LicoriceAllsorts, “Shinra actually did defeat the Ravens.”
  • Second round: 14 votes to 1 against Lindblum (Final Fantasy IX). As Flintlock so eloquently put it, “Never bring a sword to a gun fight.”
  • Third round: 4 votes to 3 against Esthar (Final Fantasy VIII). Fans may have gotten Shinra over the line here, as the discussion mostly supported an Esthar victory!
  • Semi-final: 8 votes to 5 against SeeD (Final Fantasy VIII). This was another hotly discussed round, with Trainer Red providing an interesting analysis here.
  • Final round: 13 votes to 6 against Alexandria (Final Fantasy IX). Though the votes suggest otherwise, this was the most discussed of all rounds. Many were convinced of Alexandria’s power, including kuja9001, “Going with Alexandria due to summons, Odin has enough power that appeared to be equal to a nuke.” However, Shinra had a few things going for it, as DAT BOY FROG summarised, “Modern military technology, tactics, and firepower always beats a large enough gap in technology, tactics, and firepower, all things equal.”
