I have not read this thread yet, so apple-orgies if my questions are repeated.
1. Will you be my mentor? I feel I should follow you and learn from your wonderful foundation of calm and practicalicles.
TBH I think you are more equipped to be a mentor than in need of one.
You must find your own fulcrum in this life, grasshopper, and create your own balance.
2. If you agree to be my mentor/life guide does this rule out sex?
Yes.
3. Do you like Firefly/Serenity? Thoughts on the injustice of it all?
I loved it so much!! Why no more? Why cut short? Such characters! Very setting! Much charm. I don't know the story of why there was only one season - or half a season; I thought Joss Whedon was someone who got whatever he wanted. It just seems like there was so much still waiting to be done with that cast and that world.
4. HAve you ever had an unexplained bruise - what did you think might have happened? (I generally accuse aliens, myself)
No, I always know where my bruise came from.
5. Canada is a pretty cool country - why did you leave?
My parents are also tumbleweeds by nature. My father got a job in Afghanistan and then we were based in the Uk, which is where my mum comes from, and I went to school there. But I was really, really glad to go; I felt as if Canada was on the edge of the world and Britain was right at the heart of it. I still kind of feel that.
6. Where would you like your children to live in the future? Same country as you or free roaming the globe?
I am pretty sure my older son will end up in Japan and my younger one will travel the world working for the UN or as a diplomat. Those are their plans, anyway.
7. What song(s) makes you grind the junk in yo' trunk? Apart from Shaggy's Mr Boombastic - everyone gyrates to that one.
Shaka Demus and Plier's version of "Twist and Shout".
Soul Limbo by Booker T and the MGs
8. What question do you fear for a complicated answer in this thread?
Do I have a favourite child?
9. What is it about the Turks you love so much? Individual characters? Or sorta
the idea of badass henchmen with a possible conscience? Or you just like types that can be bossed around?
I like the fact that they're all such individuals but they're really tight with each other and they seem to actually like each other. Plus, as far as the games go they're much less developed, as characters, than Avalanche, which gave my imagination more scope. I've always been fascinated by how and why people end up on the side of evil, but I also felt that "evil" in FFVII was not a black and white concept. Avalanche isn't all good and Shinra isn't all evil, and I was interested in looking at situations in which the end might justify the means, and where the limits to that position would be.
It really bothers me in Before Crisis that they're all so willing to risk the entire world on the very slim chance that they might be able to save the life of Veld's daughter. That's such an un-Turk-like thing to do.
10. Has your experience of being with your kids' father tainted you against future love? Made you wary? Empowered you? Something else?
Well, my trust sinew is busted beyond mending. I don't think you can love someone if you can't trust them, and I don't trust anyone, so.... On the other hand it's also been empowering because I've found that I'm really happy living alone, on my own terms, doing my own thing -
so much happier than I was for almost all of my time with him that I reckon I'm really just not cut out for cohabiting. I often wonder if I would feel differently if I didn't have the kids, though.
11. How awesome is fruit?
Fruit goes with everything. It especially goes with chocolate. Is there a fruit that doesn't go with chocolate? (Grapefuit, maybe?). Also, bananas are proof that god exists and she has a sense of humour. I just found out recently that bananas tasted different, and better, in the 1940s because the standard market variety was a breed of banana, called Gros Michel, which got killed off by a virus in the 1950s, just like the Great French Wine Blight of the 19th century. The bananas we eat nowadays are the breed growers fell back on when the best bananas shrivelled and died. Also, all banana trees are clones of each other. Also, they're not really trees!
