Spoiler: The updated PS5 only plays PS5 games digitally with no disc drive attached and will self destruct 30 days after the announcement of the PS6. :monster:
does anyone else remember the 'sony switch' thing? it was a sort of urban legend/folk theory from like a decade back that sony products would start having problems once the manufacturer's warranty ran out and this was designed by sony so you'd have to buy a new one. i've always had good experiences with sony products generally so i'd kinda think that was a bit unfair

but like, lately they've been testing me and i could believe them doing this. they're on thin ice right now

I was lucky enough to get a launch PS5. The first game I bought was Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, a re-release of a PS4 game. Intergrade will be the second PS5 game I buy, another re-release.

Six months and I'll only own two re-releases. But I'm not disappointed about it. This is just how it goes. I remember the PS4 was in a similar boat where the only game I owned for a while was MGSV: Ground Zeroes, which also released on PS3.

The fact that the PS5 doesn't sound like a jet engine when I play it, like my old PS4, is worth the price of admission lol

They'll just stop making disc drives for it.

One day Sony will only sell the digital versions of the PS5, citing production costs and efforts to lower the initial price for consumers.

They'll do it shamelessly and happily. Between Covid-19 and the acceleration of online and digital purchases by consumers, they're gonna strike and make the push to digital. They've wanted to for a long time.

I don't see that happening either. They committed to having games sold physically this generation. They can try and phase physical out in the transition to the next generation maybe, but not in the middle of the current one.

Soon enough the line between console generations will blur and we'll just be getting sold incrementally more powerful versions of the same hardware lol.
I'm wondering if at one point, a console will be released where its only purpose is to stream the latest technological power. You'll never have to buy another machine again, it'll just self-update. Like how Windows 10 is the "final version of windows: - it'll just be upgraded forever, according to Microsoft.

Companies would no longer have to deal with their install base resetting after each gen, it'll just be one giant cumulative mass of potenti
I should have known :P

Yuffie DLC. That probably sounds stupid, but I know what I'm about. It's literally the only reason I wanted one right now.
Not a bad reason...Even when it's like sixty days away?

PS5 April Update brings new storage options and social features

PS5 Storage Expansion and Management
  • Store PS5 Games on Compatible External USB Drives.*(compatibility requierements) With this feature, you can now transfer your PS5 games to USB extended storage from your console’s internal storage. It’s a great way to extend the storage capabilities of your PS5 console, and you can seamlessly copy your PS5 games back to the console’s internal storage when you’re ready to play. It is faster to reinstall PS5 games from USB extended storage than to re-download or copy them from a disc.

  • Because PS5 games are designed to take advantage of the console’s ultra high-speed SSD, PS5 titles can’t be played from USB extended storage. PS5 titles also cannot be directly downloaded to USB extended storage. However, games that you transfer or copy back to internal storage will automatically update when applicable. In addition, you can select which game modes you want to install (such as campaign or multiplayer) for select titles that support the option.

New Social Features for PS4 and PS5 Consoles
  • Cross-generation Share Play. PS4 and PS5 players can now Share Play together while chatting in parties. This means PS5 console users can let their friends on PS4 consoles view their game screen, or even try out the PS5 games through Share Play, and vice versa. Options include the ability to share your screen with a friend, pass your controller virtually to a friend, or pass a second controller virtually to play co-op games together.

  • Request to Join Game Session. A selection of your friends’ joinable game sessions will now appear on both PS5 and PS4 consoles, allowing for more gameplay opportunities together. The “Request to Join” option also serves as a shortcut to sending a game invite, reducing the time it takes for you to get into games with friends. Through the Privacy Settings menu, you can modify who can interact with you through parties, games and messages.
Enhanced Control and Personalization Options for PS5 Consoles
  • Improved Game Base. The Game Base menu has been improved for quicker access to important content and features. You can now easily switch between Parties and Friends to start chatting with your existing parties or see what each of your online friends is up to. In addition, you can turn notifications on or off for each of the parties you’re in.
  • Disable Game Chat or Adjust Players’ Volume. You can now quickly disable in-game chat, which turns off your mic audio and the voice audio of other players. Additionally, you can easily adjust the individual voice chat volume of other players in the same chat so you don’t have to ask your friends to lower or increase their mic volume each time.
  • Game Update Pre-download. Once it’s enabled by developers, title updates for games will pre-download to your console if the “automatic updates” setting is enabled and your console is on or in rest mode. This will let you start playing the latest version of a game immediately after the update’s release.
  • Customize Game Library. With the ability to search your library or hide games from view, it’s now easier to find content and personalize your view of your game library.
  • Screen Zoom. You can now adjust the magnification of the screen to suit your preference from the Settings menu.
  • New Trophy Settings and Stats Screen. The level of trophies that results in automatic capture of a screenshot or video clip can now be customized — so you can now choose to only capture and save images/videos of moments when you earn higher-grade trophies, like Gold or Platinum. We’re also introducing a new player Trophy Stats screen, where you can check out the summary of your trophy level and status at a glance.
New Features for PlayStation App
We’re also introducing a myriad of new features for PlayStation App to make it easier than ever to connect with your console experience remotely. Recently, we introduced the ability to save products in a wishlist, get notifications when your friends are online, and change your console online status. In the coming weeks, we’ll be rolling out even more, including the ability to join a multiplayer session on PS5 from the app, manage your PS5 console storage, compare trophy collections with friends, and sort and filter products shown in the PlayStation Store. You can download PlayStation App for free from Google Play and the App Store.

could you do that originally on the ps4 or was that updated later? i have most of my games on an external drive now. then again how do you not have folders after 4 different consoles that included them, what's the deal with that

someone who has a ps5 will have to let everyone else share play, it's the only way some of us will get anywhere near one

while searching for something else i just saw an article about how the uk might not be getting any stock until may, and if that's online then it's probably going to get bot scalped. so like, what's the point

i'd love to get one even if i don't have many games i want yet just to get it out of the way, but i can't be arsed keeping up with stock trackers and then racing to beat everyone else plus scalpers. can i make a bot to just buy me one single disc drive ps5

can i go mug and rob a scalper (in minecraft)

New firmware update is live, and there are some new updates not mentioned in the blog post. [1], [2], [3]

* There's a toggle for non HDR aplications now.

We've added the option to switch the video ouput to non-HDR when using a game or app that doesn't support HDR. To change this settings, go to Settings > Screen And Video > Video Output > HDR

* There are 2 new Hdmi options (not VRR), Pic
* There's a new list for games you can unfollow under the explore tab, Pic
* And there's a "Related settings" section under some settings, Pic
* There's a new section called "System feature Updates" that has nothing to do with the "System Software Update" that has a separate update. Pic
* You now can upload your saves to PS+ Cloud Storage right from the game page (just like PS4 did), and no longer need to enter the console menus to do this
* Some PC monitors that display 1080p/120 Hz now support 120 Hz display for games. If you're having trouble viewing your games at 120 Hz, go to [setting] > [screen and video] > [video output] and then turn off [enable 120 Hz Output]

Jason Schreier: "Naughty Dog is working on TLOU remake because their future games are still in pre-production".

Mainly after the complition of TLOU2 Naughty Dog had a bunch of devs idle and with no other inmediate big projects in their pipleline they send them to work, and take over the lead, on the TLOU remake (previously under Visual Arts Service Group). Also according Jason, this remake will not be something radical but more in line with remaster ports of the past two generations but more extensive (i.e: they will add the new tech and mecahniques developed in TLOU2 into this remake), although he says he's unsure if they will add new story content somewhere.
