I am glad Remake and Rebirth didn’t go the path I feared most.

I think my biggest fear regarding this whole project was that we might get something like the Resident Evil Remakes (2-4) When I first heard about the remake, I thought they were going to turn down all the goofy elements of the original, like Cloud dressing up a woman to save Tifa or controversial things like Don Corneo and Wall Market being completely cut out altogether. When we didn’t know the game was going to have multiple parts, I assumed they were going to cut or mix multiple areas in one to save space, optional side missions being cut out, or even characters like Vincent or Yuffie. As great as the Resident Evil Remakes are, they suffer heavily from these problems they often cut out stuff, or when they do add it, it is mixed with something else, not to mention the characters don’t act like they used to in the old games they are very serious and other than name and appearance somewhat they have nothing in common with their original counterparts. Almost all remakes these days do this At first, the multipart trilogy seemed strange, but now I completely understand they can expand the source material, but putting it into medium would require big sacrifices. We are now in the final stretch of the trilogy, and waiting for the other parts to come out is nothing compared to waiting for this thing to happen in the first place. I hope the devs realize their efforts are being noticed and appreciated. They recognize how important FFVII is and how it should be treated with recreation worthy of its greatness and that it carries the burden of FFVII's greatness, something almost nothing can live up to, and only time will tell if this trilogy can do that but from what I can tell it is certainly making its mark.

I had the same reservations as you, mainly that they would cut or rush some segments. Not only they didnt do that, but even the smaller segments of the original were expanded. They didnt need to go that hard. I will always cherish the joy this game made me experience and the effort from the team to make this the best possible adaptation.

Yeah, after playing XV, I was convinced it was going to be like that game, just with Kingdom Hearts combat and an FF7 paint coat on it. I'm glad they took the harder road and tried to make it the best they could after overtaking the project from Cyber Connect 2.

IMO What the devs did for Remake/Rebirth is nothing short of astounding, and they deserve a lot of praise for it. It was going to be a very fine line to walk between 'what they want to keep from the original' and 'what they would want to alter/expand', and the balance they've managed to strike is as good as you can get. To your first point, the way they remade the Wall Market sequence is probably the best part of Remake (keep the goofy and creepy aspects of it for Corneo's audition, re-envisioning the Honey Been Inn sequence as something more tasteful while preserving the comedic elements), and to your second point, Rebirth presents such an expansion of the world that gave very much the same vibe as when you discover the open world map for the first time in OG FF7 (people have criticized this approach for making the game 'bloated', but IMO that portion of the game - even in the OG FF7 - is about losing yourself in a vast world, and having a journey with your companions).
I do hope that the devs will pull out all the stops for the last game of the trilogy (so far nothing indicates they won't) despite sales not living up to expectations (and in my opinion, not living up to the game quality itself). If nothing else, I think the trilogy will be poised to stand the test of time, probably more so that the OG did.

Hamaguchi did confirm that they will try to make part 3 the best as they can and even better than Rebirth, and it looks like he is listening to all the criticism also. I was recently playing the RE4 Remake, a remake of a game I grew up playing this was my second run of it, and after halfway through it, I got so frustrated with it that I dropped it something like this never happened to me while playing the original so why did it happen with this game, it is a well-made game and a good faithful remake that is nearly 1:1 to the OG a game that I love so I am with so frustrated with? I will tell you why it is a total lack of charm and character. This is a problem with a lot of modern remakes they strip the character of any quirky attributes and make them generic stock characters that just happen to look somewhat similar and share the same name. This is evident in Resident Evil Remakes the most. Leon, aside from his design, has nothing in common with his OG counterpart, no goofy oneliners nor his iconic clapbacks towards Ramon Salazar compared to this Cloud in FFVIIR, and it feels like he is the same character from 1997 with a new life breathed into him, he is still the same lovable dork who tries to act cool in front of Aerith and Tifa and comes off as Awkward and goofy or how Barett is the same preachy loud-mouthed treehugger, but at the same time, he is calm and sweet his daughter Marlene or Aerith still being the lovable flower girl who teases Cloud all the time but still knows there is something deep inside of him and the relationship between all these characters is very similar just expanded upon it helps that the director, writer and another key staff members from the OG came back to work on this game. I think this is what helps these games have the identity and character of FFVII while they take radically different changes in other areas like gameplay and some parts of the story. Nomura, Kitase, and Nojima often get chastised for the narrative changes they take within the remake trilogy, but it is very clear they understand the core of FFVII more than anyone else, which is its excellent cast of characters and how the plot is centered around them and not the other way around I think this is what made the OG and the Remake Trilogy so good it understands that it is character driven narrative where characters arcs are the main focus.
