I think it's possible that the black butterfly might represent Sephiroth, as it floats over the reunion flower, in a kind of an allusion how he's waiting for Meteor's impact. Also, the black butterfly is almost immediatly above a black sphere that might represent the Black Materia.

Sonon's death was quite brutal, even without that much blood. The sound of Nero piercing his body, first with the blades and then with the Stagnant Lifestream's tendrils, was quite visceral.
