2017 Summer Community Playthrough - Tiebreaker

I was really hoping we'd choose X last time, but since it wasn't chosen then, I'm pushing it further ahead in the polls now. I won't be able to join the playthrough until August but I'm already at the Calm Lands in my current playthrough, so perhaps you guys will have caught up by then and I can...

TLS Community Playthrough 2017 - Tiebreaker

I've voted for Final Fantasy X. I'd be happy to play either of these games, but I'm especially hoping to play X as it would be a chance for me to introduce my boyfriend to Final Fantasy and I don't think he would be so enamoured by Tactics as an entry to the series.

The Lifestream ranks Final Fantasy songs

Ah, this is unfortunate. Although I do not want to see this event drag on, I'm hoping to see a final ranking that will provide an honest reflection of the preferences of our active members. Particularly at this final stage of the competition, I think it's important that the results are...

Final: Main Theme of VII vs. Not Alone

I'm voting for Main Theme of FINAL FANTASY VII. It begins with an atmosphere of trepidation, then moves into nostalgic longing. Around 2:40 the crashing cymbals and brass section bring hope and bravery in the face of fear. But soon, particularly from 4:15, it is apparent that there is still...

R16: The Great Warrior vs. Fight On!

This is a very tough call, but ultimately Fight On! wins over The Great Warrior for me. The latter has some touching moments, but Fight On! gets my wheels turning, so to speak, and I love the variations in its melody.

R16: J-E-N-O-V-A vs. Battle at the Big Bridge

J-E-N-O-V-A I could listen to for half an hour and still be engrossed in it. BATBB is starting to irritate me.

R16: Not Alone vs. Cosmo Canyon

Cosmo Canyon speaks to my soul.

R32: Final Battle vs. Fight On!

Thank you for this post, Kuroto, especially that last line. Going back to the topic of FFX, I know a lot of people were upset by Junya Nakano's contributions to the original soundtrack, as they're certainly not as melodic as Uematsu's compositions, take Creep for example. This sort of music is...

    NEW TRAILER!!!!!

This trailer is stunning. Little moments that I really enjoyed included the interaction between Cloud and Wedge, the design of the supporting characters, the animation of Guard Scorpion, the fact that we can switch characters in battle, and the music. I think this music will need to be...

FF song bracket: Round 1, Group 16

Thank you for this beautiful description. I feel I can better appreciate the song knowing the story it tells.

R32: Aerith's Theme vs. Battle with an Esper

Battle With An Esper is better every time I listen to it. It's permeated with such power. Ultimately though, Aerith's Theme must be the winner. Emotionally it's a sucker punch in the gut. It's also a beautiful composition. So there you go.

R32: Liberi Fatali vs. Opening - Bombing Mission

While I absolutely agree that ebbs and flows in music can make it all the more beautiful, Liberi Fatali for me is so outstanding not only as a masterful composition but because it is precisely so overwhelming. I cannot listen to it without engaging the entirety of my self with it. It grips me...

R32: Main Theme of FINAL FANTASY IV vs. One-Winged Angel

Ooph. I hadn't expected to be in such a tiny minority voting for Main Theme of FFIV. One Winged Angel is a great song no doubt, but I tend to skip it when it comes up. If I want drama and majesty I turn to Liberi Fatali or Dancing Mad.

FF song bracket: Round 2, Group 10

This is the easiest group of all for me, as precisely three songs stand out as major favourites: Main Theme of FFVII Zanarkand A Fleeting Dream

FF song bracket: Round 2, Group 8

This is a very tough group for me. In the end, Dancing Mad is my number one choice. At almost 18 minutes in length, I'm surprised I have the patience to listen to it, but this contest has drawn me into paying closer attention to its composition, and I can only conclude that it is a phenomenal...

FF song bracket: Round 2, Group 9

Liberi Fatali is my top choice by a clear mile. Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec is going to suffer hugely from being in the same group, but it is still an outstanding composition. Battle With An Esper rounds out my three. My most honourable mention goes to Terra.

FF song bracket: Round 2, Group 7

My top three, after some agonising, are Premonition, Fang's Theme and Noel's Theme, but I don't have to vote for only three because... This group features two of my favourite ever boss themes, namely Fight On! and Premonition. Battles have never looked and sounded so good as in FFVII and...

FF song bracket: Round 2, Group 6

I have a distinct top four in this group. I'm taking a risk by leaving out Blinded By Light as the other three need my help more: Main Theme of FINAL FANTASY IV Cosmo Canyon Bran Bal, Soulless Village

FF song bracket: Round 2, Group 5

Agreed. Those two songs are top 32 worthy, but they've already been knocked out. Maybe I'm A Lion is great, but simply not as good. My top three goes to... Servants of the Mountain (particularly the rearranged version, though I love the drums from the original as well) Lifestream One of my...
