Part 3 Structure for Story and Locations

Funny where these conversations end up, isn't it? It's not like the situation they are in is impossible to write their way out of, but it's going to be difficult. The Whispers showed up in Gongaga, but they just swirled around and didn't do anything. It's not just a battle pagoda, it's a...

Part 3 Structure for Story and Locations

You know, the setup for Wutai has really become quite weird. There's been a huge amount of time setting it up, but it also directly called out as a pointless distraction. It's a political conflict between Rufus and Sephiroth over Wutai, which neither of them actually cares about or is in any...

Part 3 Structure for Story and Locations

This is a strong possibility, but it's a hell of a lot of setup to just throw away. They have at least setup conflict with Wutai over the Magnus materia, and the huge materia plotline is a part that actually does need some punching up, so my bet is still 'short intro before they go north, and...

Part 3 Structure for Story and Locations

Re mechanics, all that meant was that putting the party in the centre of a war is going to be difficult from a game design perspective, that's all, and therefore relevant to story structure. They'll probably have to try and avoid putting the party in the middle of any actual battles, especially...

A year later, how do you feel about the ending to Rebirth?

I don't think that's consistent, given that the whispers only acted to prevent major structural changes and ignored all the minor changes that they were supposed to represent. If they were supposed to represent preventing minor changes, then they should have been written to be more active in...

Part 3 Structure for Story and Locations

While I didn't know that, I wouldn't want to notify someone every time I replied to them anyway (bar PMs), unless it required urgent attention for some reason.

A year later, how do you feel about the ending to Rebirth?

So what was it supposed to be, then? The only other answer people have come back with so far is the meta justification for the changes, which doesn't work because the changes were already happening long before the Whispers were dealt with. So if that was the intended takeaway, it's not supported...

Part 3 Structure for Story and Locations

I meant mechanically, the SeeD exam happens around the edges of the war while the real battle is happening somewhere else. In Mass Effect, the leads gets the special stealth ship with the important mission while the war is happening somewhere else. In CC, Zack gets the one man mission at Fort...

A year later, how do you feel about the ending to Rebirth?

Huh. So what we were supposed to take away from Remake's ending was nothing, then, because all the talk about fate and freedom was just a misdirect?

A year later, how do you feel about the ending to Rebirth?

Obviously there is a part 3 coming, but that doesn't mean it was necessary to deliver no progress on it in part two. The big hook of remake was the defeat of the whispers made things fundamentally different now, and that wasn't delivered on. If it only functions on a meta level and was never...

A year later, how do you feel about the ending to Rebirth?

I mean, if they go to the trouble of having Cloud attack Tifa and then have no one notice or react to it, why do it in the first place? This is the thing, the characters are caught between stories because they have to follow the old script, even when they should react differently. Aeris'...

Part 3 Structure for Story and Locations

Game design very rarely goes into outright war, because that's usually a bad idea, so the party gets the important side mission somewhere else. Rocket Town has to be visited twice with a decent stretch between them ,once in its abandoned state, and once restored (unless they scrap the rocket...

A year later, how do you feel about the ending to Rebirth?

Completely different, no. Somewhat different, yes. They're concerned, but don't do anything different, that's the point. It's pretty awkwardly placed, since the party has been slaughtering dozens of Shinra staff since the beginning and will continue to do so in part 3. OG other party member...

Part 3 Structure for Story and Locations

Be funny if they repair the Tiny Bronco and then crash it again. One of the key drivers of the war is apparently the Magnus materia, seems like that could link to the Huge materia plot. It's probably the best way to get stakes out of the Wutai plot, where the player is supposed to be going...

A year later, how do you feel about the ending to Rebirth?

Ah, the classic TLS experience, long conversations despite very nearly being in agreement to begin with. Obviously not everything has to change,as I've said, without addressing the causes of Aerith's death you can't easily change it but something should, because the party worked really really...

A year later, how do you feel about the ending to Rebirth?

Aerith's death is one of the things that is unlikely to change, because to change that you either have to make Sephiroth change his mind, or have the power to stop him. The plot points were the only things that the Remake Whispers were defending. They didn't interfere to defend Whole Eater 14...

A year later, how do you feel about the ending to Rebirth?

I mean, they were never likely to do it, that would be a big risk to take... but then maybe don't dedicate so much time in part one of your three part story on breaking free of fate when you know you can't/don't intend to deliver on it? Is it an audience perception issue to take the product...

A year later, how do you feel about the ending to Rebirth?

I feel like the second in command of Wutai's current ruler apparently killing Shinra's President would be relevant to igniting the war. It might not prove it, but none of the other stuff that happened proved anything either. No one needs proof, just an excuse to do the thing they already want to...

Tetsuya Nomura contributed more to FFVII than Hironobu Sakaguchi but people are not ready to admit it.

Who has the misconception? Of course it's a collaborative effort, any project this size is. Drilling down into the motivations is extremely speculative at best, because not all of them will be public knowledge.
