The remake gave us a massive boost in traffic for a couple of days, but now that it's stabilised, we're still getting a lot more visitors than we were before, which is encouraging:

It should be noted that some of this fluctuation may have been due to the weekend. Saturdays tend to be slow message board days, which would explain the 19th's low post count. Regardless, activity seems to have stabilised in the 300-450 post per day count, which is a nice tick up from what we were having before (the 75-200 range).

I was fed up with only being able to see performance stats when I logged into TLS's server, so last night I installed some software - it's called Munin and it's pretty cool, it basically just takes a snapshot of things like CPU and memory usage and generates a set of static pages.

landing page: http://thelifestream.net/munin
cpu etc stats: http://thelifestream.net/munin/localdomain/localhost.localdomain/index.html#system

You can see where it made the backup this morning; Dropbox actually takes up most CPU usage, the rest of the time CPU usage (normally speaking) is like 10% or less.

Also of note is that we have a server uptime (i.e. no shutdowns or resets or whatever) of like 250 days now. I think it was higher before I did the update last year though.

edit: idk if it should be publically accessible, I don't think it'll do any harm though, there's no upload functionality or anything on there, it's just static pages.

Moar statistics:

You can :rabite:learly see an uptick in new registrations after the announcement of the remake. It lasted for around ten days before returning to normal levels. Note that a lot of the registrations before the remake announcement were probably spambots.

User activity also spiked sharply and has yet to fall to anything approaching pre-announcement levels. In fact, it's been pretty much our steadiest statistic:

Another thing that increased: Ad revenue:

k1IaxQD.png

If this kept up (€15 in ad revenue the past 7 days, plus two $10 donations), TLS would actually be profitable, :monster:. Or well, bring in more than it costs (I calculated the monthly cost at about €40-€50 a month), it would take a few years before it broke even, :wacky:. That reminds me, I was going to do a spreadsheet of TLS' expenses / income at some point.

Compared to this time last year:

(These stats are for the front page only, courtesy of Google Analytics.)

Right now we're in our busiest seven-day period since early July 2015, which was the back end of the Remake announcement visitor spike. We've been ahead of last year on daily visitors every day since February the 5th, but before that we were behind most days. That suggests it's our new content that's driving the numbers up, not the site design, though that has indirectly helped by motivating me to write more.

We made new 11 posts in February, of which I wrote seven and edited two more. That's the kind of pace we should be aiming for whenever there's news – and when there isn't, we should be coming up with our own content. Everyone, if you can't contribute yourself, please pitch in with any ideas you have – that's why we have threads like this one. :)

Yop, we should probably talk front page advertising, or possibly have a wider conversation about monetisation for TLS, including options like Patreon, etc.

Indeed. I think regular advertising should be fine, although I still need to figure out how to hide it for donators - should be doable with a custom user meta field in WP, else a query to the forums database. Alternatively, if Patreon is more of a monthly donation thing than a one-time donation, we could separate front page and forums donators; idk if that'd be popular with people though, hence this poast.

If TLS Patreon is to be considered, it will probably deserve its own thread.

By "separating front page and forum donators", do you mean separating Patreon supporters and general Donations? Sounds okay to me.

More like front page supporters vs forum donators, but yeah, something like that. I've started a thrad in the staff section about it (also about distribution of potential wealth, which is why it's in the staff wossname, I'll put the real thing somewhere public). The tl;dr is about frontpage ads, Patreon, and what to do about one-time donators vs recurring paymenting supporters.
