Just finally started watching this. I'm onto episode 5.

Words can't express how much I love this show and how much I'm regretting not getting into it sooner. I love Crazy Eyes. I also have a woman crush on Alex. I didn't realise how graphic the show was, but that's fine as it just makes it that more realistic.

Loving this angry-sex thing Piper and Alex have got going! Rawr.

I can't wait for the truth about Vee to come out. I really like Crazy Eyes and want to see how her reaction is to the news.

Dammit, I finished the season. It was too good not to just keep watching. Now there is a hole in my life ;-;

So my "piscatella! <3" comment stands because I made that comment when I realised he was a non-stereotypical gay man, but the guy is a fucking douchebag XD. Like really, he's a cunt.

So so so so sad at what happened to Poussey. I think a kind of dramatic moment like that was definitely on the cards, but her specifically being the one to die was a moment that definitely blind-sided me.

I thought the finale was excellent too, a surprisingly emotional ending.

My favourite season so far to be sure.

I've seen several screenshots, but thanks. And they're not trying to be black, they just love playing funk. Trust me, I've hung out with a lot of them, they're just a bunch of music-loving goofballs :monster:

Definitely in the plot of the episode. If they're playing one of their own songs then yeah they cop some shit for it, but I'm sure that's not the name of the actual band or whatever.

Just finished the third season, the end of it is quite possibly one of my favourite TV show finale endings. :awesome:

Finally got around to finishing Season 5! Overall, it was "meh" for me. Strong start and finish, but the middle just draaaaaagged on. Definitely hasn't been their strongest.

I'll start with the low points so that I can finish on the positives :)

  1. The "chattel" scene didn't settle very well with me. Were we supposed to be sympathetic towards the inmates because Judy King is a rich, white woman who's being bought by a poor, black one? Slavery is still uncomfortable to watch, even when it's being done to white people. Dunno. I've never been fan of the "eye for an eye" sentiment in general (which I felt they were aiming for?), so maybe that's my problem.
  2. Again, how long the season dragged. Watching became a chore by episode 3 or 4. I almost wished the SWAT team had just stormed the prison so that the story could move on. I think it felt this way because of the fact that this season takes place over the course of only a few days...so the riot seemed to be lasting forever.
  3. The fact that the inmates were actively talking about how they were going to rape the hostages was pretty eek.
  4. Probably my greatest gripe: the fucking meth heads. Every time they were on screen, I wanted to hurt myself...and they seemed to be on screen more this seasons than in the past. They were just dumb and annoying and just pointless. What had they accomplished/attributed really? I've already forgotten. They terrorised a few inmates and guards and got high. That was it. I wish more attention had been given to Sophia or Gloria or any of the other more dynamic characters.

High Points!

  1. Suzanne was always good (aside from the bit where they were 'calling' Poussey's spirit)
  2. The negotiation scenes were really good.
  3. Pretty much any scene with Taystee in it was great.
  4. Poussey's cameo gave me the feels.
  5. I really, really like the 'Homage to Horror' episode.
  6. The conversation between Daya and Pornstache's mum was a great moment.
  7. Bayley seeking out punishment that eventually lead to that fantastic scene between him and Poussey's father was, well, fantastic.
  8. It was nice seeing a little of Piscatella's backstory--just wish we could've seen more of it. Felt sort of unfinished. Maybe if we had pulled away from the mf meth heads.

So yeah, over all, wasn't horrid, but didn't leave me as wowed as past seasons.

I would enjoy oitnb just as much, if not more, if
the meth heads were entirely absent. The show treats them as comic relief yet they are just cringe-worthy at best and irritating the rest of the time. They got so much screentime this season too.

Desperately needed more Sophia this season too.
