Someone named Verendus claims an FFVII remake is happening.

If I'd read this five or six years ago, I might have been excited at the prospect. Now pretty much every new Final Fantasy project Square announces seems to fill me with the dread of having to watch a once genuinely Fantastic series of games move further and further away from quality it used to be about. Nowadays they just seem to throw a game together and slap Final Fantasy on the cover. The idea of them possibly doing the same to the game that introduced me to the whole series and just sent seven year old me's imagination skyrocketing just makes me want to throw my hands up and sigh.

It's sentimental and cynical of me, but until Square starts making consistent quality titles with the narrative power that they built themselves on as a company, I don't want them to touch FF7 at all.

But... wouldn't the games come out faster if they did that? :awesome:

I could see them doing a remake now.

Anything that demands a port or remake means that the hardware is not only ready, but is also easy enough that it's cost effective. For all the nay-saying they do, it really isn't that hard to do that with the game now. The hub worlds were pretty basic (a casino level, a mining level, an ancient temple level, etc.), anything they add to it would be acceptable.

A lot of their argument was probably that they didn't want to make a series of hallways like FFX, because that wouldn't let them adapt the world map properly. But offhand, how many ridiculously huge open world games can you name on the PS3 and PS4? Quite a bit.

It will get a lot of publicity despite people saying it won't live up to the original, and enough people will probably buy it outright. It would be best to market it as an anniversary release and not some miracle game that's supposed to make people buy up consoles like they've been doing. But we all know how notorious SE's PR dept is... :awesome:

I'd sooner play a sequel to Dissidia at this point. Or hell, why not shoot for an FFVIII sequel?

I lost interest in FFVII long LONG ago.

I probably won't be interested unless Uematsu is on board or something.

I would be outraged if Uematsu was not on board. :offended:

I would also be mildly upset if Cloud's outfit was changed from purple to black or some such. My eyes can't possibly have deceived me for all these years; I've always thought that Cloud's outfit in the original game was purple. I'm sure of it...it just looks so purple! :aah:
And I like it that way...

It is purple in the original game. The 1st Class uniform was retconned into black in Crisis Core.

Admittedly, it is less purple in the OG's prerendered scenes, more bluish. But never black, and the purple in Dissidia looks pretty perfect to me.

I don't get their obsession with making prominent characters wear black clothing. Changing the Turk's uniforms in particular, that blue was awesome. It's made the compilation games a tad bland methinks. The OG always looks so vibrant and diverse compared to the newer titles.

They got weird about colors for some reason.

Like, 1sts have black uniforms instead of purple now and Zack as a 2nd wears blue instead of red (even though everyone else is still wearing red!)

Literally every redesign suffered in the Compilation -- the Turks, SOLDIER, Tifa, Vincent, even Hojo from 30 years ago. They got really fucking stupid with this shit.

I dug the black redesign for Cloud, I just assumed it was really dark purple. A lot of the designs were really bright in the original game, almost a marker palette, I figured they wanted to tone down everything for Advent Children to get away from the toony/manga look and make everything super realistic.

Although I can see why it was upsetting, it was jarring to me at first when Cloud
was suited up in the second half of Crisis Core.
They showed the suit in Advent Children, but a lot of that was blink and you'll miss it, so it wasn't that noticeable. It does make the suit look like it's damp. :closedmonster:

I just checked and it looks to be black in
Lightning Returns as well.
Which leads me to believe that if a remake ever did happen, Nomura would stick with the Black=1st Class theme...
Too bad because purple is such a regal color.

I also believe that the absence of Reeve's mog plush in AC means it might fail to make an appearance if a remake were to happen. I thought that if the cait sith doll was around in AC, he might as well have just ridden on the moogle, I mean it was a part of his character...

It's in the end battle flashback in advent children complete.

The SOLDIER uniform is a touch bluish in LR, but I changed the color to purple.

Marlene did OK, I don't mind Barret either. Yuffie's AC outfit was even good though obviously DoC saw to that. Rufus was an even trade off, going from silly jacket over longcoat to suit with really silly puffy pants.

And Zack is so well lit in AC, it might as well be blue.

"we already took nearly ten years to make the trilogy of Final Fantasy 13 games, ending with Lightning Returns. I think that a high-definition FF7 would be definitely comparable to that scale, an even bigger project maybe. It would probably take a lot longer than ten years, even if we ever do it." Kitase

You're stupid. You're really fucking stupid. Even the moon'd tire of waitin' around for your ass!

(oh and on uniforms, they were defo purple at first, now there black..tho i always thought first class members wore what they wanted, i mean look at sep and gen, they are defo not wearing uniforms lol)

Remember when the Turks wore navy blue? That was the shit.

I'd go as far to say that everything suffered in the Compilation.

I don't want to see a remake of FFVII set in the horrible new universe they reinvented for the Compilation

(that is still unfinished, gg SE)

You kidding? Barret ain't the kind of nigga to wear cornrows or some fruity looking mesh-vest/puffer jacket... thing! I understand they were trying to steer away from the Mr. T stereotype (not helped by his first line in AC being 'Whuddup, fool!') but there's no way a guy like Barret would be seen dead in that get-up.

I couldn't wrap my head around Barret's hair in AC either...
FFVII's graphics may leave a lot to the imagination, however in his official artwork, he clearly has a flat top.

On a similar note, I wasn't too satisfied that Tifa's trademark fishtail was lopped off in the compilation stuff. IMO, she looked nothing like her character artwork or in-game sprite in FFVII. Her face...just so strange looking in the compilation. I can't put my finger on it; maybe she had some surgery? Her hair was also much darker than I remember it in FFVII.

Y'know... for the sake of argument...

Soldier 1st Class and Soldier 2nd Class and Soldier 3rd Class had different uniform colors, and really they had different shades of blue to purple to black depending on the rank.

I'd really ask Square Enix for the specifics on this...

It might be that Cloud was just wearing a lower ranked uniform at the time for all we know...

Zack is depicted with that purple-ish shade during the OG as well. So we are led to assume that IS the 1st Class uniform.
