Charles Xavier wrote: Okay, just came back from the theater. All in all, a movie well worth watching. Technically the best out of the Wolverine films, considering the first being just okay (yes, I'm very generous), second being slightly better.

(SPOILER) A very sad but fitting departure to Hugh Jackman's character, but perhaps the most personal Wolverine movie to date. I genuinely felt a part of my childhood die when he finally kicked it in the end. Too tragic.

A few gripes I need to address though:

Weak villains: Daniel Pierce and the Reavers just never shone to me, and I'm kind of disappointed Mr. Sinister didn't make an appearance. I assumed Richard E. Grant was going to play him but nope... also, X24 I find, rather uninspiring, just an evil younger clone of Wolverine. For a few moments when he first killed Prof X, I genuinely thought he was Liev Shreiber back in his role as Victor Creed/Sabretooth (maybe because of the sideburns!). Now THAT I think would have been a surprise and interesting, having Logan's old enemy return for a last fight.

Second, the movie never clearly explains what happened to the X-men. All the movie (vaguely) reveals is that Prof X made a boo-boo when he had a psychic seizure due to old age and 'killed' them all. Next thing you know Chuck is like "Whelp, I'm outta here!". Bull... raises too many questions and I really wanted more answers from this. And how the hell could he have killed everyone?! All it does is put people in paralysis, NOT kill them (unless I'm missing something here). And yeah, no mention of Magneto whatsoever.

On a positive note though, I LOVED the Deadpool teaser at the beginning, funniest part of the movie.

Verdict: 4/5

Extremely tired right now. I'll shed more thoughts later probably.
(SPOILER) About how Xavier could have killed the xmen, back in Mexico Caliban mentioned that he couldn't breathe when Charles was having the seizure. Since that didn't happen in the casino (lasted too long), I'm assuming he just sends off random psychic waves that fuck with your brain working correctly.

I'll agree with the villains, but I'm fine with it. Tho I enjoyed X-24, seeing Logan fight what he used to be.

And yes, I was freaking out at the Deadpool teaser! That was awesome, and so completely unexpected.
(SPOILER)
Also, it's worth noting that Wolverine and Laura are ok after the casino incident, but Daniel Pierce is on the verge of collapsing out of his vehicle. If Xavier had a seizure and it wasn't interrupted with medication, there's no doubt that the sustained trauma would easily have killed some of them, and also that it might've gotten worse before it ended. After all, Xavier doesn't even seem to really remember what happened.

Insofar as the villains, they really served their purpose for me of being basically an enforcer and the anti-mutant but pro-ability controlling scientist that pitted Logan against his own past both literally and figuratively. That's important for establishing his small work at redemption given how he's retreated from being a hero, and also how he has to show Laura that she can be more than what they made her. Logan's biggest enemy is always his own past and not a supervillain, and it's also his health in this one, and those deserve more focus that takes time away from villain development and I'm ok with that. (The Death of Wolverine arc in the comics was quite similar in that regard) Even with wiping out all those troops, what they're doing hasn't been stopped, and Mr. Sinister NEEDS to be saved for a film that has Cyclops in it, since that's really his pet project. Despite that, and even if they build upon that in future films, the lack of an aftercredit is really for the finality here.

Loved all the Deadpool nods to the film itself playing in the theater behind him, and the Nathan Summers graffiti. Glad it's finally online to read the long text string now.

Wait a minute...

(SPOILER) Wouldn't Charles be technically still alive? Isn't MacTaggert still taking care of his comatose twin, since the events of 'Last Stand' never happened in this timeline?

Nah (SPOILER) if he still had a comatose twin, his twin'd've more than likely developed the same condition as he aged assuming he even survived into his 90s.

(SPOILER) 100% this. A part of my childhood just died in a spectacularly awesome fashion.

(SPOILER)
There was at least one woman somewhere behind me sobbing.

I got a bit teary-eyed at the end. I see a little girl crying it just breaks my heart

But seriously, this was so bleak. I was wondering if the movie's gonna match the tone they set with that good first trailer. But it was even more depressing than that. We've come a long way since Origins: Wolverine, lol

Also, after Xavier was buried and Logan gets mad and starts beating up the truck...people were laughing at that scene which annoyed me because I really don't think that was played for laughs at all.
Thankfully, there weren't many moments like that. I hate it when you watch a movie with an immature crowd that laughs at serious moments.

Also, the first ten to fifteen minutes they played the movie in German even though I specifically went to an undubbed screening
People immediately complained but it still took that long to restart the film for some reason

People laughed at him bashing the truck for me too. At both the shows I went to. Fucking annoying. The worst I've had for people laughing at inappropriate times was also during an X-Men movie. In X2 when wolverine pumps lady deathstrike with adamantium, the ENTIRE theatre laughed when her head thunked against the bottom of the tank. Cause ya know, that was just such a hilarious moment.

I don´t think it will, mainly cause I don´t think this movie can resonate with the (old dudes) Academy judges, the emotional punch of the movie comes mostly from the (almost) 2 decades of X-men movies history and Hugh Jackman portrayed of the character for that long and his final performance as the character, without these elements the movie loses quite a lot of its impact.
Also a comicbook movie never won an oscar (at most they´re nominated for one).

Dude, the use of CG to replace stunt doubles with the actors in this film is INSANE and I'd never've even guessed that that was a thing that was done all over the place in it. Please note that the article DOES have some spoilers in it: http://www.cartoonbrew.com/vfx/cg-ac...ew-149013.html

Also, I saw this again last night, with my girlfriend this time (since we work opposing shifts, so she doesn't see release night movies with me anymore, and we catch them Monday night on her day off). (SPOILER) It was somehow even more gut-wrenching the second time for me. Hope's only ever cried in like... two movies ever (including Spirit when she was a kid and one other one). She's basically grown up with the X-Men movies and Wolverine & Xavier are a couple of her favourite characters and she had NO IDEA that this was going to be their final film, and as soon as the final title screen hit, she just turned to me all teary-eyed as the credits started to roll and said, "There's more, right...?" and I just shook my head since I knew there wasn't an aftercredit & just got to hold her as we were both tearful sad little nerds in the theater as the credits kept rolling by. (Can't even write that without getting punched in the feels all over again).

I saw this a couple of days ago. It's definitely the best superhero movie that I've ever seen.
