2012 on TLS

What has 2012 been like for you on TLS?

I'm trying to gather ideas and comments for a "year in review" front page article, which I'll post no later than New Year's Eve. And I need your help!

What have been your highs and lows of the year? Have any of our community events stood out for you? Have you done anything new? What will you remember most?

You don't have to answer each of those questions. Just share whatever you feel like sharing. Thanks :)

Oh, and Yop:
I should gather some stats for 2012, actually, :monster:
Do it :monster:

I'd like to see stats for the year.
Most thanks given by/to, most thanked posted etc.

TLS 2012?
Reviews and opinions all the major film/game releases.
It's always better to ask someone who has to pay for the game/film and get the most out of it then reply on the (possible bribed) opinion of a profession website. (I seem to remember Bio-ware employees writing there own reviews for DA2.)

Plus it's great to talk to people who are playing through the same game as you (and screwing up like you). To be fair the topic didn't matter to much, talking to people here about anything is worth doing.

Also:
I like how Cthulhu seeped into everything. :shifty:

Probably not going to say anything relevant here, but since you asked....

2012 was quiet for me since RL violated my time online. I'm glad I lurked enough to meet up with Yop, that weekend was awesome, as was the following piss-up. Hopefully 2013 will bring moar RL meet-ups since folks here are awesome and stranger danger is negligible. :monster:
I'm pissed that I still haven't had enough time to read Destrillians, although I may get started on it whilst I'm off work. I'd like to contribute to the site the way some folk do, but my time is precious and I generally stay up too late just spooning around the General section anyway. Don't get me wrong, I do look at the other sections, I love the artwork that gets posted up, there are some talented people here.
In short, it's the only forum I bother with these days, no-one tries to be 1337 or has an irrational bee in their bonnet, it's just a nice laid back place and I'm quite chuffed that I've known some of the members online for several years now.

2012 on TLS? How about the massive amounts of drama that went on for most of the year. And the hypocrisy of the staff stemming from that.

What drama? :monster: There was some for a little bit some time ago, but the other 90% of the year has been fine, iirc.

Honestly, the summer - during voting - was painful.

I really thought that I left a more favorable presence here on the boards. Though it was not just the goings-on in the forum, as 2012 held a good deal of more personal issues to deal with, I broke down when I saw that so many were against me being a moderator.

I honestly thought I could do a good job, and would be more mature eyes and ears on the forum. Anyhow, that's all done and over with; it also served to show me that while that may have been true, my time was not available for the forum.

It served to show me this outside of the forum as well; while every year is one of learning life-lessons, this year cracked one or two issues that have been problems for a while.

2012 wasn't a bad year. Drama at times, some made by me and some made by others, but other than that, an okay year.

Ah yes the mod voting. After adding 5 new ones we now have 1 active one and one who asked to be banned shortly after becoming a mod. Good times.

Drama, what drama?

New front page launched, front page updated more regularly, a playthrough of VII from beginning to end, more people streaming stuff quite regularly, more folks becoming involved in what the site is aiming to be - it's been a good year on the whole for the site.

Personally, I've had a lot of fun. There's no point trying to pretend there was no "drama", but I don't see the point in bringing it up constantly either, since it's not exactly relevant to the clear purpose of this thread, is it? I hardly see it going on the front page.

So with that said, here are some of my personal highlights of the year:

  • VII Playthrough.
  • Playing through XIII with Fangu.
  • Writing several VII related pages as well as news posts.
  • Skyping with awesome people from all over the world.
  • Watching streams (Carlie with Farscape, Yop with Hellsing, YACCBS with X-Files and Castle).

2012 was the first full year I've had with TLS. I've seen it change a lot since I joined, and I think in most ways, if not all ways, it's been for the better. We have a great team of people who took charge and revamped the front page, and since we did that and started making a concerted effort to post things on the front page regularly, we've gained several new members who have been really active in FF discussions. I feel like we have more FF based discussions now than were going on when I first joined. The site felt like much more of a general social site than a dedicated FF forum, which really started turning around within the last several months or so, in my opinion. Not to say that I don't like the general discussion we have going on here, in fact, I really like it, and actively participate in it. It's just that it seems easier to open an FF based discussion, and I swear that several of our new members have been starting different FF threads several times a week or so, which definitely wasn't happening in the first six months or so after I'd joined.

I feel like the community here now has really meshed well together, in terms of both members and member projects. I'm really glad to see how things have come along, and I really hope we're able to keep heading in the direction we're now going. So, basically everything Lex said :lol:

Somehow I just arsed myself and gathered some stats into a spreadsheet. It has graphs, :awesome:. At the moment it contains:

* Forum statistics (threads, posts, registrations per day)
* Front page statistics (visits/pageviews)
* Article statistics (pageviews, time on page) - most read article this year was - probably again - the LTD is over article.
* Search engine terms
* Browser usage
* Countries
* Social network referrals

I wanted to add Wordpress statistics too, as in, how many articles were written this year, but I couldn't find a quick and easy way to do it, :awesome:. If someone wants to add stats to that, I can give access. Also note that these stats miss part of today and tomorrow, for obvious reasons :monster:

Well, I've been very happy in TLS for the past year, my first one here. I've never been part of a fandom community as much as this one and I have fun meeting new people and discussing things with you all. I learned a lot about the lives of people I can't see here from where I live.

I have heard things about this forum, some bad, some good and I'm aware that there are a lot of things I don't know about. But I don't think any personal conflicts matter to me as long as this site remains dedicated in delivering FFVII information. And I have high regards of this site for that commitment and hard work, and I hope that I can contribute more to the fandom and to this site :D

Im really glad to have been able to get 3 of the audiobooks released this year, as well as the piano album, even if they didnt get too much of an audience. :P

The site redesign is really great. Everyone who worked on that should be really proud.

lol wow the LTD is over article has 758 comments :P

The article is now up, after a frankly ridiculous amount of work. I hope I don't have to spend as long writing an article until next New Year's Eve :monster:

Thank you to everyone who replied to this thread :) Sorry I couldn't use quotes from all of you.

Good stuff, I think it's easy to forget how much stuff goes on, great to see it all put together like that.

To put things mildly I'll just say that there were significant changes in my forum social circle. I didn't start the wheels in motion that changed who my friends were, but in the end I accept it. I never like losing friends but sometimes people change...sometimes that person is even yourself. I'll always treasure the friendships I had and thank them for it. Now I can enjoy new friendships, even as more and more of my life is becoming offline.

Despite my own reservations in certain things on this forum and site I ultimately support it and its staff, and hope for all the development and evolution of it.

I admit I've no idea what's in store for the new year. Who could, hmmm?

Fangu

Great Old One
@ Flints article, again
<Fangu> that looks awesome

2012 was lots of Skyping, games, laughs, arguments, learning stuff (AKA front page project). Getting to know people in a different way I have ever done before. I'm fairly sure over the year I have been annoying, insulting, scary, bitchy and hurtful, but I also think I have been supportive, friendly, enthusiastic and fun. You guys have been a support when real life has fallen apart. I can not thank you enough.

Re: front page, I have ideas and I'll sketch them up later. The current page is in my eyes a bit Beta - there needs to be more on there: more interactive stuff, more social media, more images. I'm so happy we pulled this through, even if there was the occasional drama :P
