There's a few chat clients that are easily available if one looks around. IRC is also available for the tech savvy. Just thought I'd mention it.

Generally it was decided a shoutbox would be completely impossible to moderate/maintain. I don't think the staff/many of the members want it. An IRC channel could be a wholly separate entity from the forums though, and wouldn't necessarily need to be run along similar lines.

Yeah I guess I can understand, my forum is a lot less active than this and the shoutbox can be a pain.
But an IRC chat would be nice and you could even set up a java/cgi version of it on the site. You know for people who are too lazy to learn mIRC.

A chat would be lulz, but it'd be dead like ACF's unless it was somehow integrated into the forums properly. Like a chatlog or an activity indicator or something to that effect. Or people regularly going 'go to teh irc fgt'.
