A look at Amano's new anime

There is one man who best represents the look of the entire Final Fantasy franchise and that man is Yoshitaka Amano. Whether it be character design, art or logos, Amano's left his mark on the series. Next up, his own anime. Amano is helming his debut anime, called Deva Zan. This isn't his first fortray into anime as the artist cut his teeth working on properties like Speed Racer and Gatchaman. He first entered the anime industry at the tender age of 15.
The film is the product of Amano's new production studio, Studio Deva Loka, and Amano came up with the story a decade ago. Set in the late 19th century, the 3D film follows a samurai named Zan who ends up in an alternate universe.
Deva Zan is due out next spring in Japan.

Nah, seriously, Zan's face looks slightly like Edward Scissorhands, but that's as far as it goes.

Looks awesome. I finally know what that statue at all his art gallery showings is for, and have a feel for how it fits the style.

His designs looked better in the VHD movie.

Hmmmmmmmm. I like this, I like this alot.

The only 3D anime I've seen was Appleseed, and I thought that was pretty crap visually. The characters looked totally lifeless.

This looks good though, I think hes managed to translate his style to 3D pretty well. I just hope its interesting plot wise.

I find the Kotaku description of Amano as the "one man who best represents the look of the entire Final Fantasy franchise" laughable, but I'm interested in checking this out.

I agree, but even that had more colour. I hope the finished product of this has more colour =p.

I would actually find it pretty cool if most of this anime was black and white with tiny bits of color thrown in. Like, in this trailer we get a tiny bit of red to illustrate that one guy's magic or whatever. Maybe every now and again there could be other colors thrown in to emphasize something important. Maybe a certain character could stand out and always be a certain color, or some such?
