After Tifa was brought to Midgar

You can't really know if that's the case or what was discussed without some explicit mention of it. Whoever wrote it could've just been left to write it with little to no input.

So I'm not the only one who can't go on FFWikia without it freezing up after a few minutes?!! I thought it was just my shitty computer.

Also, I didn't realize those various 'writings' (whatever you want to call them) weren't considered part of the Compilation. Perhaps I should just the use the term "Expanded Universe" to describe all the wacky shit they've added since the OG

The On the Way to a Smile stories are, Maiden Who Travels the Planet is not.

Besides, Case of Lifestream: White retcons Maiden.

I'm still not convinced Maiden and Lifestream White are iincompatible.

The credits pages for those books where Benny Matsuyama wrote some stories credit Nojima, Nomura and other Square staff with editorial supervision.

My understanding of the timeline is that Tifa wakes up in Midgar alone after being brought there by Zangen. I assume he left before she woke up or surely Tifa would have told the others about him if she knew. She worked at a bar to make ends meet, one day a depressed Barret walks in to drown his sorrows or get some Dutch courage before shooting up the shinra building. The two get talking and Avalanche is born. He/she/they buy the bar assuming Tifa doesn't own it already and recruit. Some time after that, she finds Cloud all fucked up at the station.

Isn't Midgar kind of a long way to go for medical attention? Do we know for certain he brought her there?

Dirge confirms that there was an internet. It goes down with Meteorfall, and they get it back online three years later.

IIRC, Zangan didn't just take her there, he wound up there because he needed top notch Doctors he could leave Tifa with. It's possible she was catatonic for months after the incident.

Yeah, the actual info about Zangan carrying her there actually exists in the OG, in the letter he leaves for her (...In Nibelheim, for some reason). Although it does contain the awkward "I used the 'Cure' spell on you many times", just one of what I'm sure is countless examples in FF games of in-battle terminology and aspects being used in the day-to-day world being really unusual.

Edit: It never says EXACTLY where he brought her, and kind of implies he did a version of the whole "Quick, push that bitch 'out the car in front of the hospital! We 'gon get caught!" *car speeds away* thing.

The last line about it: ""I decided to go to Midgar to find a doctor I could trust. I'm worried about you, but I can't settle down in one place for very long. Have you recovered fully? Are you well?"
Read the whole thing here: http://www.ff7citadel.com/secrets/s_tifa.shtml#third

Double Edit: It doesn't relate to Tifa's arrival in Midgar, but one of the other "Nibelheim Letters", the one from the flashback, written by the "Son of the guy who runs the general store" and addressed to Tifa, must contain some sort of translation errors, or something. The author has left Nibelheim for Midgar, and states that he arrived in Midgar "Eight days ago". The very next line is, "Yesterday, all of Nibelheim got together to WELCOME me". First, I thought it might be as simple as that it should've been "send me off" instead of welcome, but even that doesn't work, since he got to Midgar 8 days ago. Weird.

He means the other kids from Nibelheim who were already in Midgar. In Cloud and Tifa's flashback to the promise, she mentions that all the boys from Nibelheim were going to Midgar. Notice also that he mentions the only person there they couldn't get in touch with was Cloud, who was also in Midgar by then.

As for Zangan, he is clear about taking Tifa to Midgar: "Putting you on my back, I headed down the mountain to the village. I used the Cure spell on you many times. And started to head for Midgar to look for a doctor for you. I don't like that city, but my Cure spells weren't helping."

I think the only thing I need to headcannon is how the avalanche we see in the game came together. The guy in crisis core would have hired Tifa. He was an Avalanche(old) sympathiser. She says in CoT that she found Avalanche. "It started with my own personal grudge. The slogans AVALANCHE used, about how they were anti-Shinra and anti-Mako, were just what I needed to hide my true motive." What avalanche were up to at that point is unclear. Spraying graffiti, getting the word out about Mako.

Barret must have come along soon after, then they got more radicalised.

In my headcannon right now, avalanche sympathisers met in the bar, taking the name of the old terrorist group. Once Barret comes along, the group shrinks. Some leave because Barret takes over and some leave, seeing the plans they're talking about.

In the game, when you're unlocking the doors, they say "A lot of people gave their lives to get these codes". So whether they're talking about old avalanche dying, or members current avalanche knew. The owner of the bar could have been one of the dead.

And what we see in the game is what is left of Avalanche.

Ehm, begging your pardon, but at least in the English version of the script (I don't know what's the original Japanese like), Biggs says "Think about how many of our people risked their lives, for this code". So, not sure that getting the codes implied people dying for the cause.
IMO this also implies that Avalanche's network is bigger than Barret, Biggs, Jessie and Wedge.
My personal impression was that at the end of BC, Avalanche 1.0 is pretty much wiped out, and Barret's Avalanche 2.0 had little in common with the original besides the name, the overall idea of opposing Shinra and mako usage, and using the 7th Heaven as a hideout.

Uh.
I really wonder why it's been translated otherwise. Not that it's a unique case in FF VII script :)

I would say it could be "Think how much our group sacrificed to get this code..." but Im pretty sure I had that double checked.

The owner was anti-Shin-Ra, yeah. Zack suggests the name "Seventh Heaven" to him in Crisis Core, and the guy muses that the place could be a good base for an anti-Shin-Ra organization -- and that it needs a busty barmaid: "Maybe there'll be a young girl tending the bar... Yes, yes, with a big bosom and long legs! Just a killer figure!"

ahhh, and that brings tifa into the picture. too bad zach never saw his suggestion come to life. the easter eggs in CC shows just how much the team was dedicated to working things out for zach, and just how much he mattered. but at the same time they break my heart :rage:
