Same. I quite enjoy his films and his style, and hopefully because Cameron's nuts about Alita in general, they'll figure out how to do a non-shite adaptation of an anime (unlike seemingly everyone else).

As a human being I utterly despise James Cameron, but I'm a long time fan of Titanic and I loved Avatar. Having said that, while they're both epic, they suffer terribly from TL;DR.

Here's hoping Cameron's hand in the movie (and therefore boss-ship over Robert Rodriguez) isn't quite as Stalin-esque as every single person whose ever worked with him has made him out to be, because the movie will suffer.

Wasn't this kind of old-ish news? I remember reading about a LA adaptation of it a while ago... but maybe the addition of Rodriguez is what's new. Hrm...

Yeah I remember reading about this a couple years back while searching "anime/manga film adaptations" or summat and Battle Angel by James Cameron was one of them (similar to "Ghost in the Shell by Steven Spielberg" lolol)

Good to see these things coming out of the woodwork... I think? :monster:

I think the new's always been floating around. Hasn't he been wanting to make a Battle Angel movie since the 90s?

Yeah I was literally a child when I first read about the James Cameron Battle Angel movie lol.

Good to see some new news on this though.

This. He has been promising it for decades. The last I heard he promised to 'look into it' after Avatar 2 and 3 were done. Glad there's a director attached now at least.

I never read the manga but I loved the anime when I was younger. This could be epic.

Really weird choice of a soundtrack for the trailer ... but yeah, as a fan of the anime, I can't help but feel hyped by that.

It's really interesting her appearance is VERY intentionally placed into the uncanny valley, and directly addressed in the trailer with the, "Does it bother you that I'm not completely human?" Overall, I'm oddly REALLY loving the look of it the more I keep watching it.

Not sure how to feel about this. I have the first anime volume on VHS and I loved it as a teen. I'm sorry, but, Hollywood, why. I mean I do know why but. Why. Wasn't Ghost in the Shell enough?

Just to put this in perspective, this has been a passion project for James Cameron for fucking AGES. Per the wiki: The domain name "battleangelalita.com" was registered to James Cameron by 20th Century Fox around June 2000. He's been wanting to do this for WELL over 20 years at this point, and it's been in development (hell) in some form for 17 years. It's not just generic Hollywood wanting things.

I assume Hollywood people have tons of projects in their drawers.

Anyway I knew someone was going to defend this project, hence the / baw. My opinion still stands unchanged. Because feels.

I mean, there's a BIG difference between "having a project in your drawer" and being actively involved enough to keep a project in development hell and pull through to get it done over a period of almost two full decades.

I'm not really sure why "feels" would be a reason to be against the project though. For me, this kinda feels like if GDT managed to get At The Mountains of Madness made or something like that. Also, what's fundamentally wrong with making a manga/anime into a film (especially since this one is actually set in the US)?

I wish GITS was James Cameron's passion project. Chances are it would've been a lot better than it was. Anyways, the trailer leaves me feeling neutral.

Weird face is weird I mean. I know she looked different in the anime but this was too different. I dunno I'll probably watch it when it goes on tv or something. The anime was pretty depressing IIRC.

To be fair, James Cameron has a history of serving a lot of pretty things without much substance. Not to mention the fact that Avatar was basically white guilt as depicted by alien furries :monster: I'm not a fan of his, and honestly having his name attached (even if it's only in a production role) makes me not wanna pay to see it lol.

Also the fact that this is on the coattails of the Ghost in the Shell movie with all its backlash... I can understand the reservations. I agree with the sentiment that it's generally not cool for big movie studios to take creative property from foreign cultures and not have people from those culture working in majors roles of the production.

I'm hopeful because I think the CGI on the actress is cool, and I am digging the uncanny valley line they're toeing. I wanna see how they pull it off in the actual film. I also tend to like Robert Rodriguez movies, so I'm willing to give it a watch.
