Am I the only one who thinks that Vincent was sort of a bum?

Yes, he does end up redeeming himself several times over by not only being instrumental during the plot of FF7, Advent Children, and spearheading the effort to save the world in DoC, but am I the only one who thinks his 30 year slumber was a total and complete waste of time? He says he's sleeping to 'atone', but couldn't he have been doing something more productive with himself instead of sleeping in a box in a basement? Even some of the party members call him out on this.

While he does wake up to the call when spurred on by Cloud (so like I said, he does eventually redeem himself), I honestly think he was acting on 30 years of backpay worth of wasted time.

NOTE: This isn't an attack on how Vincent was written, or how Square made his character (which was fine). This is an in-universe criticism on Vincent himself, as if he was a real person.

Stereotype character is stereotype. Honestly, I can't see anything to his character that doesn't apply to the general cliche he falls under. Which is sad because FF7 was pretty good in defying tropes in quite a few of its characters. Seriously, he is so... bland.

but yeah I sorta get the immortality point. If I were immortal I wouldn't rush into anything. I would be kind of hyprocritical for judging Vincent of this, considering one of my most beloved fandom characters is Angel (from the Angel/Buffy verse). If I have my timeline straight, he spent a solid century just hanging around feeling sorry for himself!

Vincent is my favorite character in terms of apperance and stuff, but all the characters have their own flaws and fuck ups about them.

His are just abit more.... unrealistic. He did redeem himself though- Saving the world and all, even if DC was a boring game. The concept was alright...

Whatever he lacks, he makes it up in eye candy, imo.
