Anyone else miffed at the supreme lack of games this year?

Compared to the last 5 or so years, this year has seen very little in high hitting titles.
In the last 4 months ive seen little to no new releases at all other than shitty DS titles and the occasional good games such as prototype and infamous.

If it werent for the likes of
Batman Arkham Asylum
Modern Warfare 2
and
Assassins Creed 2

This year would be going down as one of the biggest dissapointments in gaming history.
UK games retail magaine MCV has been trying its best to urge production companies to bring more games out as opposed to stock piling them until popularity grows.

All in all does anyone else feel like its been a shit year?

This article also outlines the hit the industry has taken. Sony's gonna have to get with the program and do something about its high cost machine in these times, otherwise its gonna continue to lag.

The recession can only be blamed fo so much, to combat the recession companies are now planning on hiking up games prices.
The uk is set to pay 55 quid for modern warfare 2 standard edition on release not to mention another 15 for the collectors and the prestige edition setting in around the 150 mark.

All in all its just been a really shit year.
From what the production teams have said about Assassins creed 2 its all ready and currently boxed up in warehouses awaiting release.

I think hiking up the prices would be a really bad idea, especially now. As stated in the article, its lower prices that are helping consumers want to spend. If they raise them too much, I think people will clam up and wait until its affordable.

People are being more careful in what games they want to buy, and developers are now more anxious and hesitant at releasing games they're not sure are gonna turn over an immediate return. Stockpiling them is pretty sucky but I guess I can understand where they're coming from.

They are only slapping it on modern warfare because they know it will sell regardless of the 10 quid price hike.
The fact this year has had a really shit choice is just forcing people to spend stupid amounts on games they know that they want.

Lmao, personally, I'm pretty excited for the new GTA4 episode, and of course Uncharted 2 in October.

Batman is right on my doorstep, and it's still buggering me off.

Eh, I loved GTA4, probably because I hated all the others.

Yeah I got into the beta, and played it for a while.

Was pretty fun,co-op especially. I immediately noticed how the shooting controls have been adjusted for more accurate shooting. You no longer need to rely on the sixaxis for throwing grenades, and can zoom in slightly to focus on an enemy with pretty much all of the weapons. This demonstrates the new deph of field effects that let you draw all your attention on the closest foe for heightened sharpshooting.

I've allowed myself Dissidia of course, but Uncharted 2 will call for me, as will Assassin's Creed 2. I could use the break, frankly, last year was ridiculous. I had neither the time nor the money to play all the games I wanted to.

I'll have you know that Overlord 2 is a pretty cool game, it makes you club cute, fluffy, big-eyed seals and doesn't afraid of anything.

And yeah, a lot of games have been pushed back to '10. I'm personally looking forward to AC 2, and that's about the only game I can remember atm, brain died . I fear greatly for Max Payne 3 (pushed to 2010), I doubt it's got the same feel as the original(s), especially considering they buggered the graphical style completely.

Brütal Legend will be the not-too-serious hit of the year though (unless that one's been pushed back too. Or it's been released already, in which case I haven't heard anything about it yet). It'll be more of a hit than Overlord 2, in any case (and the genre is sorta comparable).

Sony's gotta reduce their prices posthaste. The only way out of the recession is to have consumers spend more money, and for them to spend more money, you have to make it easier for them to do so. A short-term test that probably didn't give reliable results for anything permanent (by Valve) indicated that cheaper games will sell better. They sold Left 4 Dead for €25,- or something for a period of two weeks, and it sold like crazy. Of course, that was only 2 weeks (or so, might've been 4), but I do believe that games will sell more if they are made cheaper. Then again, if they're half the 'normal' price and sell twice as much, there's no difference in the income of the game publishers.

Hmm, I haven't noticed too much, probably because I've just been buying older games recently or games I played when I was 10 and lost, but still love. Time builds character.

Well Scribblenauts is coming out in September and that's all I need for games.

This year has actualy been pretty good so far. Killzone 2, Infamous and Prototype, Street Fighter 4, Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2, and whatever else, it's just been the past month or so it's been dry but I'm pretty find with that. I'm still catching up from last year.

While there weren't that many great releases this year so far, there's a few to be had towards the end of this year and next year sounds like an absolute biggee!
