I never really had an interest in The Hulk so his was the only movie I skipped before seeing The Avengers.
I saw it for the first time a few days ago.
Omg I loved it. A LOT.
I almost loved it as much as I loved The Avengers.

Got into a weird disagreement with a dude-friend tonight.
Made a comment about how Christopher Nolan isn't really good at writing female characters, and how the Catwoman character in TDKR is probably going to be a complete trainwreck for this very reason (aided by terrible casting). Made a defense about Black Widow being one of the most well-handled character in Avengers and a good example of writing a female character.
Person is a bit of a Nolan fanboy. Responds that he doesn't really like the way the whole rape analogy with Black Widow and The Hulk was handled. Says it somehow weakens the strength of the character.
Say that's fair enough, but counteract the point that just because a female character is faced with rape doesn't mean it automatically takes away from her strength. In fact, one of the most positive way a female character can be a role model in these situations is to face these situations without losing her power (something I argued was apparent with Black Widow in Avengers with a couple of scenes, not just the whole Hulk thing).
Get a response that Whedon further diminishes his point by including gratuitous butt shots. Makes me further confused because the sexualisation of a female character does not, once again, diminish her strength. In this case argue it adds to it. Black Widow is a character who uses her sexuality as part of her arsenal, and that's an important part as to how we're supposed to view her (adding to it that a certain sexualisation of Loki contributed to his character in a similar way).
Get told that he doesn't think Joss Whedon is particularly good at being a feminist.

Get really confused and just shrug it off because as well-intentioned as the dude is, I don't think he really gets the whole feminism thing that well.
I dunno I guess spending a lot of time on tumblr/the internet in general, there's a lot of discourse in which people take certain concepts for granted. In real life it's really frustrating because a lot of that really needs proper explanation and it's just... skdfsjkfkdsggsh what how can reasonably intelligent people not understand these things

I'm not quite familiar with the rape analogy but if that's the scene with Hulk where's she's so scared I kinda get what that person is saying. Well for me, there's nothing really disempowering about that scene since everyone is scared of the Hulk, just look at how Cap reacts on Tony poking Banner. BW and Hulk are ridiculously mismatched and it has nothing to do with BW being a woman. I say that scene is even interesting since it shows her lose her calmness since probably she cannot think of a single thing to save herself that time.
LOL sexualization? Butt shots? I grew up in a setting where I learned to wear modesty glasses but I can say to that person that BW is nowhere close to being exploited (except to fundamentalist perhaps.) She's sexy, she's beautiful and she's strong. There's a difference between having a sexy butt that everyone can notice without trying and the camera zooming in to your butt while you're on an interesting pose. Just try to compare her to Soul Caliber, DOA and the majority of ecchi animes LOL.

On further thought and another rewatch, I'm kind of mad the dude even made the analogy between The Hulk/BW and rape in the first place.
The Hulk is an out of control rage monster. To say he's a metaphorical rapist is perpetuating this idea that rape is this out of control impluse. You got some real warped conception about rape if that's your rape analogy. Especially when there's Loki who has pretty heavy-handed rape implications (mewling quim, "you know what it's like for someone to stuff something else in").
I dunno. It never even came across that way to me until he mentioned it. I have enough trust in Whedon to think he wasn't trying to take that particular relationship to that place, which is why he made their power dynamic fairly equal (in terms of control - not really phsycal strength). Plus an amicable relationship dfhlskgdgs
I haven't slept in like 48 hours I am just rambling to myself.

I cosplayed as Black Widow at Youmacon 2012. Granted, I bought the outfit from Party City but there was a lot of detail put into the costume and it didn't look cheap or silly (unlike their Catwoman one, but let's not even go there) so needless to say, when I put it on, I fell in love with it. Wore it to the convention and got tons of pictures in it. If anybody wants me to post some, I'd be happy to. There's an awesome one with me, an Iron Man cosplayer and a War Machine cosplayer that I'm totally in love with. <3

Anyways:
I like this picture but after walking around in heels all day, holding that position hurt my leg so badly. It felt like i was pulling a muscle in my thigh.
This one is my favorite though. My parents weren't too happy that I took so many pictures of me NOT smiling but I can't imagine Natasha would do too much smiling when she has her gun at the ready.
And then there is this one:
I was so happy when I saw them. They put a lot of work into their costumes! Just had to get a picture with them and then all of a sudden there's like a hundred people all around us taking pictures.
