Big Mouth

Netflix's new animated comedy series about puberty. I would post the trailer, but honestly it makes it look like crap. It's actually surprisingly good. It's not just crass for crass' sake, it just doesn't shy away from the weird and "inappropriate" stuff that happens during puberty, and I've even heard some people say they learned stuff from it.

I don't really like the gym teacher tho. He has some funny moments, but mostly he's there for a random cut away gag that doesn't have much to do with anything.

I checked out the first eps on a whim, and ended up watching til eps 6, before I needed to head to bed

Watchable. I marathoned the entire season. The humour wasn't really my thing, but something obviously kept me watching :p.

I've been side-eyeing it as just another "Family Guy" genre of comedy that tends to make me feel like I'm losing brain cells.

It looks that way, but it's a bit smarter than that. Doesn't focus on "random" humor. Not saying you'll like it, but maybe check out the first eps. Like I said the trailers make it look like crap

My buddy just binged this and recommended it to me. I'll likely try to check it out this weekend.

The lukewarm reception in this thread is destroying my faith in humanity!

I am halfway through the season and I have literally been in pain from laughter. It's one of the smartest comedies I've ever seen, and I don't say that lightly. This show is going to be fucking huge.

I didn't think I was going to like it as much as I did. Like some others have said, it looked lit a rehash of all the other fart-joke comedies. It's actually pretty good, and got some genuine laughs out of me.

I could kinda do without the musical interludes, though.

It's winning me over. Beer helps. Could do less with the gay joke lampshading, but babysteps.

Edit: And as if on cue, we have an entire episode on being gay, and it's hitting so damned close to home, it literally broke through the window of my childhood. Hoo-boy.

This show has earned my respect.

Question: If I was completely and utterly disinterested to the point where I'd've rather spent my time literally eating a dictionary page-by-page by the middle of the first episode, is there any reason to continue watching?

Like... by that point, I felt that I understood the appeal of the show and why I give absolutely zero fucks about it, but I'm wondering if there's something beyond just that.

Probably not gonna work for you. It's all basically covering the same stuff, just a different set of themes each episode.

Hormone Monstress is a little something extra though later on. I don't think episode one really makes it clear that the cast is a bit more ensemble than episode one sets it up to be.

Roger that. Kind of a shame, as one of my good friends has REALLY liked it, and I totally get why, but I'm just totally not into it. Also, the fact that all the characters are crazy short with huge heads is always a tiny-bit offputting.

It does seem to cover all the subject matter in a really even-leveled matter though from the little bit I saw. Anyhow – carry on with your enjoyment and such!! Here's to hoping you get another season!

Yeah the trailer didn't make this series look at all appealing but I decided to give it a watch after spotting this thread. Not a huge fan of the bug-eyed art style or the pointless cut-away stuff with the gym teacher but the rest of what I've watched so far is... okay :)
