Black Desert is a new MMO that will be coming out a bit later this year. It's absolutely amazing looking.

Black Desert is an upcoming sandbox-oriented massively multiplayer online role-playing game by Korean video game developer Pearl Abyss. The game has been in development since 2010, and entered closed beta testing (CBT) in October 2013. The game uses Pearl Abyss' own "Black Desert" engine specifically created to handle the fast rendering required for its seamless world and large-scale castle sieges. Black Desert uses a free-to-play model although no further details of the business model or revenue generation have been announced. It will initially be released on the Microsoft Windows platform, and Jaemin Youn, Pearl Abyss' Chief Operations Officer, has announced that the developer has begun talks with Sony Computer Entertainment regarding a version for the PlayStation 4.

Black Desert takes place in a high fantasy setting and revolves around the conflict between two rival nations, the Republic of Calpheon and the Kingdom of Valencia.

The game includes a number of features to assist with immersion and the sandbox aspect. These include:

  • A parkour system, similar to that seen in Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed, allowing players to climb, explore and interact with buildings and obstacles.
  • A dynamic, worldwide weather system which will include large scale events such as typhoons and will influence gameplay. Localized weather will include events such as temporary fog which players may exploit to launch surprise attacks on rival guild structures. Seasonal weather changes or travelling to areas with different climates will require the player to adjust their equipment, for example using warmer clothing in cold weather which also impacts on a player's statistics.
  • A dynamic day/night cycle with a gradual progression of lighting effects. During the night some NPCs will become unavailable as they return home while the number and type of monsters that a player may encounter will increase. Different game content will be available depending upon whether it is night or day.
  • Player housing will be non-instanced and will vary from tents through to more substantial houses and buildings. Players will be able to furnish and equip their housing and may hire NPCs to set up as traders from the building.
  • Players will be able to engage in mounted combat. Mounts are acquired by taming in the wild and players are able to breed special mounts by mating certain types. Mounts require feeding and care, cannot be stored in the inventory, and may be killed.

Classes:
  • Ranger - Rangers act with the wisdom of nature. They are known to be cunning and perceptive, and are fast and durable due to their medium armor. They’re specialists in dexterity, with uncanny sight and high hit ratio.
  • Warrior - Warriors are armed with a sword and shield. They are melee fighters who are able to deftly bring down their enemies, but can also protect their allies with their shield. Even though they wear heavy armor to outlast their foes, they still display an impressive amount of speed and flexibility.
  • Sorceror - Sorceresses are dangerous magicians with both ranged and melee attacks. They display speed and focus in their light armor, and equip a talisman to amplify her magical power.
  • Giant (Predator) - Predators are massive figures, ready to defeat their foes with an axe in each hand. They have the power of transforming into a wolf, magnifying their strength and speed.
  • Tamer - Tamers use a sword to vanquish their enemies, while their faithful pets turn into ferocious allies in battle. Tamers have the ability to use their companions as mounts.
  • Wizard - Wizards are powerful magic-casters that focus on many enemies at once. They prefer to stay away from their foes due to their light armor, and cast from a distance with their staffs.
  • Valkyrie - Valkyries are fighters that hold a sword and shield. They hold unique abilities that their male counterparts, Warriors, do not possess.
  • Blader - Bladers are duelists that hold a one-handed sword and fights like a samurai. They have the ability to split their sword into two and dual wield.

Tendency (Reputation System):
Players’ reputations can be seen by other players, and are indicated by the colors of their names.

  • Green : Character has a neutral reputation.
  • Blue : Character has been hunting monsters.
  • Red: Player has killed another player or has been caught pick pocketing an NPC.

If a player has a low enough reputation, they may alert guards and initiate an attack.

YESSS.

Saw a few videos 2 or so weeks ago make it to front page on reddit. It honestly looks really good certainly a step above current offerings.

Heres hoping it makes it across the pond. Some good Korean games have a bad habit of not coming over :<

Looks good visually, shame it's yet another third person spam action keys kinda MMO. Probably filled with kill ten rats quests.

Yes I'm bitter, :monster:

Beats paying 60$ , then paying another handful of cash for 1 locked class , then paying 15$ a month while still having to deal with pay2win elements. Only to be stuck in a shitty world with a beloved theme and skin poorly tacked on all the while having to deal with the worst grouping and dungeon system implemented in a video game since possibly the late 90's. :monster:

Or alternatively

A very decent MMO that is 10 years old that is only truly active 3 months out of the year after big Expacks drop. Having to deal with a shit economy and lackluster community for 9 months out of the year waiting for the next big Expack.

. I'd make one about FF14 but havent played it and I hear it does no wrong.

Those are the 3 big choices aside from things like Rift or literally a few hundred dead, dying or just plain out broken (P2W) games filled with people who are only capable of saying one thing in chat "BR?BR?10,000 gold plz"
