Brad Pitt To Star In 'World War Z'

Comic-Con is barely underway in San Diego and we already have some big news from the show floor! While chatting up "World War Z" author Max Brooks at the booth for comic publisher Avatar Press, the writer confirmed to MTV News that the adaption of his novel about the zombie apocalypse is not only moving forward, but Brad Pitt is now officially attached to star in the film. Additionally, Brooks revealed that Paramount has optioned the movie rights to two more of his projects: "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks" graphic novel.
Pitt's production company Plan B Entertainment first secured the rights to "World War Z" back in 2007 after a bidding war with Leonardo DiCaprio's company, Appian Way. The actor has long been rumored as a potential lead for the film, but Brooks received the call confirming Pitt's attachment (and the other "Survival Guide" deals) while signing copies of the books at the Avatar booth tonight (Wednesday, July 21) during Preview Night at Comic-Con.
"I can't believe how cool Paramount has been to me and these projects, and how cool Plan B has been," said Brooks when asked for his reaction to the news.
According to Brooks, the studio is currently targeting a Summer 2012 release for the film, which chronicles a worldwide zombie outbreak through the first-hand accounts of survivors. The original screenplay was penned by "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski, but was later rewritten by Matthew Michael Carnahan.
Brooks said the studio recently received a new draft of the "World War Z" script, and "Quantum of Solace" director Marc Forster is still attached to direct the film.
"I'm glad they took their time, and are trying to make the best zombie movie they can," said Brooks. "I'm so glad they stayed with the project and so glad they found the right team."
Of the two new books optioned by Paramount, "The Zombie Survival Guide" offers instructions for surviving an attack by the living dead, while "Recorded Attacks" chronicles some of the major battles that occurred in the war against zombies. The "Recorded Attacks" graphic novel was published through a partnership with Random House and Avatar Press.
"I'm thrilled for all of Max's success," said Avatar editor-in-chief William Christensen, who also served as the "Recorded Attacks" editor. "I'm looking forward to all of the other projects we're working on with him in the coming years, too."
I kinda wish they would have gone more low key, no-name actors, but oh well.

Yeah, I agree, would have preferred nonamers too. But at least there isn't really a lead role - Pitt will just be one amongst many others. And there are far worse A-list actors than him.

This is also the first thing I've heard about them making a World War Z movie. I hope they do it justice.

I never said he wasnt a good actor, but when I see pitt, I think of him as pitt. When I watch wwz, I'll think of pitt, and that takes me out of the movie. And I wasnt exactly complaining, I was just stating that I wished they would have gone with no names

So this is basically, "When disaster porn films meet pain-immune, crazed running zombies" the movie.

So it has nothing to do with the book other than theres a zombie outbreak over the entire world. Alright.

I see what they're doing with the zombies just piling ontop of each other, but it just looks weird to me.

Lo and behold, I was just mentioning this somewhere else and now there's a trailer!

I've never read the book and am not interested much in this other than the fact that from 0:00 - 0:50 you can see various parts of my city centre, which is fun to watch in a big budget movie (and also makes it fun to imagine a zombie apocalypse happening right here!). The part with the reddish sandstone square is George Square, one of Glasgow's more famous landmarks.

I remember them installing all the new street signs and lampposts - confused the drivers a little bit with all the yellow Americanness.

Okay I just watched World War Z today and here are my thoughts:

It's a zombie movie that is for the whole family, it's pretty neat- no blood/gore or swearing or anything. It's fast paced, action-oriented but there's enough drama to at least make you feel something. I don't think it's cliche or anti-cliche, it plays zombie tropes nicely without making it too predictable.

My only criticism is that it's a Brad Bitt movie and it seems that there is little focus on other characters besides him. Gerry is an interesting character but I feel that the other characters are there just to serve Gerry's story. Th other characters are likeable enough but not memorable enough IMO.

Overall 7/10

Where's the fun in a zombie movie if it doesn't have blood, gore or swearing?

Well the zombies in the movie move really fast and they're like ants so the thrill is how you outrun them or go into the next location because you can't really outrun them :monster:

Zombies just bite here, no eating of flesh ^_^

That's incredibly boring and I'm not even a fan of zombie movies but they're fun when a zombie is taking a shotgun to the face and shit like that.

I prefer the slow mushy zombies.

My dad and brother went to see this over the weekend and dad said it was crap. He said part of it was set in Cardiff? Is that true because I find that amusing.
