Were they ever actually released by SE to the public? The versions I've seen seem to be photos taken at their event, where the artwork was displayed on the walls.

I know the Tifa one it cut off at the bottom, because in the full version you can see her legs, like this

I don't think so. I looked around ages ago and never found them in better quality than that. The Aeris one was in the Bradygames Crisis Core guide though.

The ones you posted seem higher quality than the ones I found

Some of those were included in the Advent Children U.S. limited edition collector's set as postcards. I don't know if which ones you got were the same in every copy, or randomly selected. I have Cloud, Sephiroth, Kadaj, Tifa, and one with Cloud on his motorcycle, I think. Plus, I'm pretty sure there's one in there of just Barret and another of Cid, along with some of the early promotional artwork for AC.

There are more than those too. Most notably the renders of their FF7 selves (like the Tifa one Pixel posted).

My personal favorites in addition to FF7 Tifa are Barret and Marlene and Shinra. There are a couple I have, but you're right, Pixel, that they're probably not original images.

It seems weird the didn't release them. You can see a reflection from a strip light or something at the bottom of most of the ones I've seen.

Too bad the renders are gonna be completely different from the AC and CC era in the Remake.

I was rather under the impression that Nomura wanted to draw from AC and CC character designs to make the ones for the remake. Sure, they'll probably create new assets for the remake since the technology as evolved (on the one hand in-game rendering poses constraints in terms of model quality, however on the other hand rendering capabilities have improved dramatically since AC release), but I believe the aesthetic differences will be minor.

I watched ACC recently and found myself no longer amazed by the graphics. I could see actual pixels. There was a strange time where I thought nothing would surpass how awesome ACC looked, but the FMV's from the XIII trilogy actually beat it in terms of quality. I suppose that's not too surprising since they were made after it.

Not to say AC looks bad now, but I'm starting to see cracks in it that I didn't notice back when it was released. Now I've been spoiled by sharper images XD.

I still think ACC's new scenes look excellent. The original footage definitely has been surpassed though.

I found everything in AC/C deep in the uncanny valley, and I feel the same way about that little girl in the remake trailer.

Could be worse

Early AC shots seemed to be striving for more realistic skin textures. But when they toned it down, it looked a lot better. I hope they don't go for ultra realism in the remake.

I don't think they will tbh. Although the realism aspect has come through in SE's recent FMV's, the characters always retain a sort of otherworldly signature anime look that I'm happy with.

I know that I sound stupid here, and yes, there were mistakes here and there, and there will always be mistakes even with higher technology, so don't be surprised if there'll be mistakes in the remake, but I prefer the renders of the characters from AC/C, DOC and CC.

Heck, the HQ quality of FF Type-0 looks like it's been splattered on by paint or something in the game-play mode, especially with Class Zero. But that's just me.

I wish Square would officially release those renders, because I'd love to have all of those blown up into posters for my future game room.

I could have sworn those renders were released in one of the ultimanias at one point though...

I've seen these before. They were part of either the 10th anniversary ultimia or whatever, but yeah, seen these already in google images.

I remember those renders when they were displayed at the 10th anniversary gallery. Then later published in the ultimania book. I still have my Tifa poster hanging in my room which I had printed before it came out. Photoshopped the glare out and tried to recreate the bottom section.

Yeah, I just googled it and they were printed in the 10th Ultimania.

Has nobody scanned these yet? I'm sure I saw the ultimania scanned somewhere.

I do have a scanned copy of the 10th Anniversary Ultimania, though it ends at page 205 and then has the back pages. Those images aren't there.

So I assume those are only found in the Revised Edition? Or my source neglected to scan those pages.

Edit: Well, in the Revised Edition, the Official Art page starts at p200 instead of p180 in the 2007 release, so there are significant changes. And the Official Art section is only six pages long in the original. So that's the ninth and tenth page of the Revise Edition's Official Art section in the image above.

I tried photoshopping Tifa's legs in. Bit of a shitty PS job. Used her legs from her Dissidia model. The legs are a bit thin on that though, so her thigh gap is bigger than it should be.

Tifa's got unrealistic breasts for her size. I doubt an unrealistic thigh gap will raise any eyebrows. Looks good though!
