Cloud's Shoes: What are these?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone has noticed this:

They're square looking. When I first saw them, I thought only one shoe had it, assuming it was the wound through the foot that Sephiroth caused. Anyways! Now I'm at a lost, maybe they're belt buckles? Watch the movie to check out ACC in high quality. Tell me what y'all think.

They're buckles. You may notice that they're a trend with Nomura's character designs.

Noted, If it wasn't a buckle or a belt or a zip, I'd be highly shocked. No one in the Nomura universe I think has learnt how to tie shoe laces.

I never noticed that Cloud's boots had buckles on them, since his pants hang in the way most of the time. I thought they were just zippers!!!!

That being said, yes, I wish someone would just use regular shoe laces. lol

That doesn't mean what you think it does. There's a male end, as well, but you can't see them, since they're necessarily inside the female end.
