Collective is a curated platform that enables creators to post ideas, and gamers to judge whether those ideas should become reality or not. Every idea that's successful with the community is checked and helped by Square Enix, while a partnership with world-leading crowdfunding platform Indiegogo enables gamers to then back the ideas they love the most.

I like how they have two main points: "What's in it for the developer" and "What's in it for the community", omitting the part "What's in it for Square"; this will (perhaps) have them attract new talent (hiring) and new ideas, and in all likelihood there's a clause somewhere in there that Square gets at least partial ownership of the stuff.

tl;dr, idgi, lol

I'm not sure if I get it either.

So far it seems like "You won't get as much money as you would from a publisher and you won't get as much freedom and retain IP rights like you would with kickstarter/just indiegogo"

Eh?

This reminds me of an online version of that show called "Sharktank".

Seems shady as fuck and honestly seems like a last resort effort for developers after there project doesnt get much attention on kickstarter.
