Depends what kind of remake. Hints at Switch would imply mid-market tier rather than full AAA IMO. A remaster is more likely though.

Typically either outsourced to a 3rd studio or done in house with a lot of outside help from a 3rd studio.

Depends on the studio who is outsourced or supporting. I've worked in this area and there really is a lot of talent, and provided the funding is there, they can move and adapt more quickly than larger studios. We typically only hear about the horror shows though. So it depends how seriously SE is taking it.


I'd imagine a game of that size and scope would need to be rebuilt from the ground up. S-E is good but damn, that's not a simple undertaking. That would be cool but also feels extremely unlikely. And it's not part of the Nividia leak lol

Yes, but depending on how CC was made, its possible a multiplatform remaster would effectively need to be rebuilt from the ground up too. So ??‍♂️


I think the "insider" is drawing from the common sense linking/associating that can be made with the new PS Plus service being unveiled and the fact that it'd make synergistic sense to put the past Compilation titles on it to hype up the new game that is obviously drawing elements from those past games.

The stream is actually on the morning of the 17th in Japan lol.

Crisis Core is pretty fucked from how it's put together, or so I hear, so a remaster would be a big challenge.

The main thing I'd want are the graphics being brought to a higher standard, controls to be more polished* and for the "open area" spaces to be given more life or variety. A new battle system would be cool but I didn't dislike CC's.

* I had to emulate CC because I was late to the party with it. So it could have been emulation, I don't know how smooth the controls were on PSP.

One big reason I imagined Crisis Core was never ported to anything was because, if you read the interviews about it, you really get the sense that what we got is the skeleton of what they wanted to make. UMD size limits prevented them from doing many things, and SE shot down making CC a two UMD game. Cloud and Zack's escape was supposed to be much longer, for example. So I've assumed that they probably would prefer a remake to a port. All that said, I still don't think they're doing one right now. I wouldn't mind being wrong though.

Well, CC was made using what would be a 15+ year old bespoke engine from what I can make out. So either way, if this is multiplatform it would probably require a fair rebuild anyway to get it into a modern multiplatform engine - be that an SE in-house engine or something like UE or even Unity. That is, if they haven't got pipelines to rapidly port code from old engines to their newer ones, which is possible.

Interestingly, CC was originally planned to be a full action RPG, so a new battle system might not be out of the question.

Except not really. As a fan of the Compilation, enjoyer of First Soldier, and someone looking forward to both Ever Crisis and Part 2, I'll be happy with whatever is announced. Just give me the deets, I'm game.

A CC Remaster ala Re:Chain of Memories sudden announcement is not unbelievable but I can't help but think it'd be unlikely. But... we've been surprised like with Intermission. :monster:

Love how they pretend this is part of Summer Games Fest LMFAO

EDIT: Steam database has been updated for FFVII-R. And it's been exactly six months since the Epic Game Store release of FFVII-R. Maybe the Steam release will finally come? LOL seems like another possibility for inclusion

I don't think the leaker would risk their entire career just to hint that Crisis Core is coming to PS+... also, it appears they're hinting at multiple platforms and I can't think of another with a PSP emulator...

Like I said, it'd be a real KH: ReChain of Memories situation. I remember that 2006 Tokyo Game Show blowing people's minds because of how much S-E was featuring back then... No one could believe they were working on CC, ACC, the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, The World Ends With You, KH2 and Re:Chain of Memories but that's what was revealed. :monster:

i honestly really don't care too much for a crisis core remaster. There is no way there will be a crisis core remake, not with 7Remake in development... It's FF7R all the way or nothing
