If you look at the XV above the smaller XV then you can clearly see the size difference between the X and the V. It is literally the same XV just scaled down.

If it turns out to be a hoax we'll find out in a few days, not by trying to make the symbols out to be different from what they are.

Either they're fake or Square has changed the "V" in the Final Fantasy typeface without changing any of the other letters. Ghost is right -- the "V" is completely off.

In saying the V was inconsistent with previous FF titles, I was not insinuating the entire image was fake. I suspect it is probably intentional like Unlucky above theorises, though I wouldn't put it past modern day SE to stuff up.

It could also be an entirely new FF with the 'V' serving as a subtle hint relating to Versus

as in "vaporware"

It could well be that. However I highly doubt it as it would make matters really confusing when it comes to releasing the actual Final Fantasy 15, as they couldn't use the roman numerals they've been using for far too long.

Saying that, Microsoft don't seem to care about making matters confusing by calling the 3rd Xbox the Xbox 1.

Well at least we can be sure that it's definitely implied to be Versus and not a new FF, shopped or not. You can see the trail of the dress and part of the wing of the Versus logo in the "XV" logo.
