so i've been watching anime for like 15+ years, i've finally gotten around to evangelion. and idk why but it's just not really working for me. i'm 14 episodes in for the record.

Eva’s strength lies in what it doesn’t say. The imagery, the pauses, the motifs. It’s very atmospheric. If that’s not your thing you won’t like Eva probably. That being said, the end of the show is a lot more in your face and becomes blatantly philosophical. It’s not a shonen.

I feel like it's generally more well-told than the anime, but I also feel like the sort of clusterfuck that was the anime is also what made it so memorable to begin with. The manga is a good supplement to it, though. Rei and Kaji are improvements in some ways, but I feel like Asuka gets the shaft and Shinji's more complex mentality in regards to his situation is diminished. Also they left out my favorite angel, Leliel, so this manga is a 0/10. /s

Haven't actually finished yet, just got to the EoE stuff.

I never read the manga but I kinda feel like it now. EoE is great. It’s not super cheery though which pissed people off. Not sure what people were expecting. :monster:

Watched the first three rebuild movies all in a row today. I don't like Mari at all lol. Third movie was probably the most interesting because of how radically different it was, but it also really could have stood to have explained things better.

They're all up on Amazon Prime now, aren't they? I know what I'll be doing this weekend!

So... Domestic Girlfriend. Went in blind and gotta say, it took me by surprise.

No, it wasn't the juicy step-sibling love triangle. Or the high school teachers plowing their students left and right. Or the girl who slept with 30 (or so) boys. Or the existence of emotionally intelligent males in a shounen. Or the Yakuza showing his tattoos in a public bath.

What took my by surprise was Rui Tachibana:

Rui_Tachibana.png

A blue-haired, red-eyed kuudere.

Rui. ?

Tachibana on Wikipedia... didn't even have to click, did you? You just knew it would be a Matsu-class escort destroyer, completed in 1945 for the Imperial Japanese Navy, armed with three Type 89 127-millimeter (5 in) dual-purpose guns in one twin-gun mount aft and one single mount forward of the superstructure.

Rui Tachibana... introverted and socially awkward... constantly naked with no modesty.

Who lives with her older sister Hina... a woman-child in a position of authority over their mutual love interest... who drinks herself to sleep... and stands next to the Yebisu factory during the opening theme.

First minute or so ring any bells?

And don't get me started on the cheerful character who gives helpful life advice... who prefers to be called MARI

Anyway, where was I going with this? Right, this all proves beyond a shadow of a doubt:
1) All anime rips off Evangelion
2) Evangelion is trashy cohabitation fantasy plus kaiju

tl;dr saw Hideaki Anno in a tortilla while watching smut
