Even Hideo Kojima wants FF7 remake

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, Square Enix producer/artist Tetsuya Nomura, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada and Metal Gear art director Yoji Shinkawa had dinner earlier today.

What did they talk about?

According to Kojima, they talked about a Final Fantasy VII remake! After Kojima Tweeted that he was in a dinner meeting with the three, a follower asked that he tell Nomura to remake FFVII. "I passed it along," replied Kojima.

He was probably joking. Or was he?

Other things Kojima said he passed along are "Hurry up and release Kingdom Hearts 3D," "I know it's tough for Square Enix, but you can do it!" and "Tell Wada I'm waiting for Seiken Densetsu/Secret of Mana 5." Kojima did not pass along the message "I'm looking forward to the new Zelda game" that someone for some reason asked him to mention.

Kojima passed along one message without his followers' suggestion: he told Tetsuya Nomura to get a Twitter account.

While the actual topics of conversation during the meeting are probably secret (they may have just been having a friendly dinner -- it happens sometimes), we do know what was on the menu. According to Yoichi Wada's Twitter, two people had cola while two people had alcohol.

Apparently he cared enough to relay messages from fans. I find this amusing for some reason.

*adds news to personal FFVII Remake Timeline notes*

By all likelihood, Square will not listen to Hideo Kojima and for that I am thankful. Just the thought of a remake scares me because the game would never live up to expectations.

I'm a little scared of a remake too. That it won't live up to my own personal expectations.

But I've said this before, and it still holds true: Even if a remake is terrible and garbage, it will take nothing away from the original game. The original will always be what it was, and will always be a great game. A bad remake wouldn't ruin that, imo.

Maybe they'll give the project to Kojima :awesome: Could you imagine? lol Hour-long cutscnes with tons of extra dialogue and managing to make the plot even more convoluted. :monster:

Although one thing you have to say is you'd know he'd take the voice casting and direction seriously in all languages.

And I agree with Tifabelle. I would have no problems playing a remake for what it is. Knowing that it will not possess the "charm" and will have to make up for that with its presentation. The worst part will probably be the fountain of hatred that is sure to flow from TLS :P

No shit you do, because it's the same shit we've all said dozens of times before on several occasions.

I'd let kojimas insane ass touch an FF title before i would let Tetsuyas talentless ass back in SE if i had my way.

But i dont have my way and thats why SE is garbage now.

edit:
And when i say back in SE, i mean if i was running the show i would of time traveled back to the 90s and fire tetsuya before he discovered the internet and belt fetish porn.

To be honest, Nomura-directed games are still pretty damn fun imo.

Although one thing you have to say is you'd know he'd take the voice casting and direction seriously in all languages.
This. If Square-Enix hired the guys who did MGS' English dub, that'd be awesome. :monster:

If Sony had any idea what was good for them they'd pay whatever it took to get FF7 Remake exclusivity. And then run a duplicate ad campaign to the one they did in '97. :awesome:

Man, just think what Square could charge anyone for exclusivity for that game...

Let's not have a remake. If they can screw up Parasite Eve, they can screw this one up. Let's back away and leave this gem to the archives people. Nothing to salvage here.

You know what I don't get? There's Comp-haters out there (like me), who despise what SE have done to FFVII, yet still insist they remake it. WHY? They've already proven they don't give a toss about destroying the game's legacy. Think what they'd do with a remake!

One would think SE has learned their lesson, and would try to stay faithful but who knows.

what i don't get is how they're saying a remake would take decades to make >_> not gonna lie, i haven't played the original, but i don't see how what is essentially a graphics update would take that long.. i understand that they would need to recode it for the new systems, etc, but that's no different from any other game and they sure as hell don't take decades to make.

but i'm all for a remake, it's most likely the only way i'd end up playing vii, and i'd like to.

...What's keeping you from playing the original?
...lack of shiny graphics :awesome:

i guess i could emulate it, but i hate playing games on my computer. if im on the computer 9 times out of 10 i want to be doing something else besides playing a game. and i dont have a ps1/2 to play it on, and acquiring it is apparently expensive these days.

No PS3 to play the damn thing for me ; - ;

Though I could get a better laptop or desktop to play the damn thing. But New tv comes first. Then 360. Then Broadband. Then Games. Let's just say trying out FFVII isn't on my priorities atm : B But I would give it a try if life permits it from here on out.

Playstation Network, FFVII for 8 bucks, play it on your PS3.

Don't be like those n00b gamers who can't sit in front of an old game and play it cause they can't get behind graphics. C'mon. Please don't make me lose more faith in current gen gamers anymore.

Because there's nothing at all they could do that could ever ruin the original FFVII.

Until Yoichi Wada somehow creates a flux capacitor and sticks it on the back of a Delorean, the original FFVII will always be good, and untainted by the Compilation and any current writers at Square. You can't change the past or the memory FFVII already has carved in people's minds. A remake could be fun, and might actually be good, even if its not the same thing. There's still hope for them to learn from the shit that's gone wrong so far. The Compilation hasn't be perfect but it hasn't been all bad either.

Hell, I didn't like the FFIV DS remake that much, but it was still fun and interesting in its own right. Square would literally have to pull an FFXIV or FFXIII hackjob in order to completely ruin the entire FFVII remake experience. Namely cutting, changing, and just making it something completely foreign.
