No I haven't, but that sounds like an awesome read. I think I found something I want to buy, though. :monster:

But now I wonder...if even I exist....

I am so buying this book. ....Just let me get some money in my paypal first.

...Wait, can I even use paypal on Amazon?

I own this book, but I could never get that into it. Some of the contributors can't write particularly well, and they didn't always seem to understand the games all that well. Take this extract from the chapter The Lifestream, Make and Gaia [which incidentally sounds like a title Domino might have in his library]:

"We will attempt to clarify the concept of 'the Lifestream', which appears in the game Final Fantasy VII but is more prominent in the... movies 'The Spirits Within' (2001) and 'Advent Children' (2005)" (p. 49; my italics).

I don't know in what sense the Lifestream can be described as 'less prominent' in FFVII than in AC (I've never seen Spirits Within). It's not a major thing, but it's kind of niggly. And that was just from the first page I opened at random. Quite a lot of the book is irritating in this low-key way. I seem to remember, from reading reviews on Amazon, that people considered it a gimmicky book, and that the philosophers hired to write the chapters weren't necessarily sufficiently steeped in Final Fantasy to really speak authoritatively about it.

Maybe I'll read another couple of chapters tonight and let you know what I think. The chapters do have very tempting titles, such as "Final Fantasy VII and the Writerly text", "Madness and Nihilism in FFVI" "Cloud's Existential Quest for Authenticity" and so on....

From a distance, it seems like a bunch of kids having had a philosophy class and fangasming all over FFVII, :monster:.

I'd like to see a book philosophizing over shit.

Thanks for the replies, I was wondering if I should buy this myself, but after reading these comments, I don't think I will anymore. I found the first chapter on a website, and wasn't too crazy about what it's content was explaining.

The reads here on the this website already catch my interest, so I'll just stick to that. ^_^
