120 hours might be a more extreme estimate. Though I could remembering incorrectly I recall finishing the Pre-HW story way before that .
It is a pretty long story though lol.
Sort of a bummer I really enjoyed playing Dark Knight before I quit. It will definitely be the second class I cap once I regain access to it lol.

howlongtobeat.com lists the average time to clear just 2.0 story at 122 1/2 hours and around 10 for the content patches. However, I think this is expecting a person to do more than just focusing on the main story. If you have a good team, know your roles, know the good level grinding spots and don't waste time in crafting or gathering classes (they're fun, but at this point superfluous unless you're the best in the business) I'd say you can probably cut that time in half.
Then again I argue what's the fun in a game if you aren't going to let yourself get sidetracked and do your own thing. If you're ever on Cerbs I play pretty regularly and am becoming a reliable Tank so we can blast through the story dungeons together. And hell, if you really wanna burn (and don't mind losing out on the EXP) we can unsync run your dungeons and knock those out in about 5 minutes a piece. I don't recommend this though since they're the best way to level up outside of FATE grinding which can become tedious.
I'd really like to try and convince my fellow members of the retrospective pod to create accounts when it's time so we can at least burn through 2.0 together, though HW has the vastly superior content and story.
tl;dr - You can probably clear it in 60 hours if you're motivated and don't faff about. I want to play and will play whenever. Golden phallis'd angels delivered HW to us on a silver platter next to grapes fed in our mouth by bare-breasted [insert forum gal here]-shaped nymphs.

I just wanted you all to know that I haven't forgotten about this. I've just been super busy with real life stuff. When would everyone that wants to be involved with this possible podcast be available for a brief conversation via Google Hangouts? I can say that typically weeknights after 6pm ESD work best for me. Weekends are off and on availability.
I know that getting from 0-50 as LNC/DRG took me about one month. I started during the beta before the game was released in 2013, and I played almost constantly, but I also did pretty much every single sidequest available at the time and the EXP from everything has pretty much tripled since then. Especially dungeons, which is ridiculous. I ran thousand maws yesterday as my level 24 ACN and went to 26 in one run (~25 minutes). Pretty ridiculously fast. At one point when the game was released the fastest way to level was in a FATE group.

I just started playing this week. The EXP availability in this game that comes from things other then fighting monsters is crazy.
I'm currently at Lvl 15 in two classes. My main (Arcainist) I've leveled just from doing the Main Quest and Hunting Logs. I probably would be in the Lvl 20s range (at least) if I didn't take time off to get all the other classes leveled up to 6 at least (just doing Hunting Logs takes you at least that far) and in Archer's case, Lvl 15. Not only is it the 3rd class for the Summoner Job, it's also the only ranged physical DPS class (and I like ranged classes in games with auto targeting). I got Archer up to Lvl 15 mostly by doing the available side quests in The Black Shroud. I've still got all the side quests in La Nosca and Thanalan to do, and I'm planning on saving those for when I start on Thaumaturge (2nd Class for Summoner Job) and whatever Tank/Healing class I like the most.
And I still have all the Crafting classes to take a look at, although it looks like trying to get all the Gathering Achievements is going to help a lot with that. Gathering is going pretty well though. It's a great excuse to not use Teleport when getting from place to place.

I remember when HW first came out a friend and I leveled our new classes (Dark Knight and Gunner guy lol) in like 2 dungeons and just kept chain running it even after we out leveled it. I knew it would scale us back but didnt realize it wouldn't scale the exp down so we got there pretty fast lol.
I forgot the dungeon names but one was like a forest with the water section towards the end with the flying fish and crocodiles, has a dragon boss that leaves acid on the ground. The other was the desert cave dungeon where one of the bosses swims in the sand in a phase.
Not sure if it's still viable but those 2 places were perfect for the grind to 50. I'm still trying to get back into FF14 but the download is still going incredibly slow. My google fu has not found any fixes other then the "forward your ports" suggestion, which wont help much since mine have been forwarded for years lol. Have you guys ever heard or ran into this? =/
As far as the podcast discussion. Currently I'm working late nights till morning so my sleep cycle is pretty screwed up. If you guys can set up a time that works best for you all and tell me ahead of time I can adjust to it and wake up etc.
