So, obviously there are plenty of rumors buzzing around the net as to the possibility of some FF7:R related news/footage appearing at this years E3. As many have pointed out, KH3 is likely to be the main focus this year and they may not wish to show anything FF7 related that may steal thunder from KH. Though it may not be likely, it has occurred to me how they may be able to promote both games. Disclaimer: my post is intended to be read as a potential possibility and not a prediction.
The way I envision this could happen, either at the SE press conference or Sony press conference, an extended KH3 trailer plays. We will likely see a lot of new gameplay, story sections, perhaps some additional world reveals, and cutscenes. One thing we have yet to see, however, is whether or not FF characters will be returning and/or whether or not new FF characters (that haven't appeared in KH so far) will be present in the upcoming game. Particularly in KH1 and KH2, the FF7 cast were some of the most predominant FF characters portrayed in the KH universe. Later on, BBS included Zack Fair. It seems likely that the FF7 cast will be returning in the newest game. As long as the FF7 remake (part 1) isn't terribly far out, as in within 1 - 2 years, it would make sense for them to promote the remake by way of heavily featuring Cloud and co. in the newest KH title. Ideal situation: KH3 trailer plays. Near the end of the trailer Cloud and co. are revealed to be appearing in the game. As the trailer ends they go straight into a new FF7:R trailer showing new footage/gameplay/character reveals.
It is doubtful we'll get a release date for FF7:R at this point, though E3 wouldn't be a bad place to show off some updates for the game. If the promotion was handled this way, it could mitigate any perceived competition between the two games. It's obvious that KH3 will be released first at this point. If this strategy were to be used, longtime FF7 and KH fans can look forward to seeing their favorite FF characters in the newest KH game, and newer fans less exposed to FF7 can get a better feel for the FF7 cast in preparation for the remake. Increase the hype for longtime fans, and help bring newcomers onboard. Seems like a win-win to me. Of course this is all speculation and VERY unlikely that it will play out this way. That said, I would like to hear all of your thoughts as to how this might play out, either at E3, or in the future. Cheers!
