Wait. I completed all the trophies, and I only played the cranes once. After that, all the ladders Aerith had dropped remained in place. I wonder if I missed something, then? I really enjoyed playing the crane hands... it's what we all wanted to do when we saw it in the OG, isn't it?

When I went for the Fashionista trophy I had to play through those chapters over again and do the crane puzzles. Maybe I went about it the wrong way?

It's a tiny little thing, but I absolutely love that moment where the walkway Aerith and Tifa are crossing starts to crumble under their feet.
Cloud sees an opportunity to be a big hero, but Aerith beats him to it, pulls Tifa to safety and Cloud charges in like a big lug and ends up nearly killing himself only for Aerith to make the save with her staff, and Tifa to help hoist him up.
I'm absolutely loving how much their avoiding making the two ladies damsels in distress. They're both badass women who've grinded to make a life in the most unforgiving environment on the continent. This shit is just another Tuesday for them

Lic what do you mean you completed all the trophies? Have you played through chapters 8 and 9 from the beginning three times for all of the dress permutations? The ladders don't stay in place when you start a chapter from the beginning (which you have to do for certain trophies).

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but I was struck by the fact that the sewers of Midgar's slums clearly enjoy somewhat better maintenance than the underplate. The sheer amount of litter and rubbish strewn around everywhere on the underplate, plus the infestations of gashstrikes, really makes it clear that Shinra blue collar workers do the minimum they can get away (despite the efforts of our noble friend Mr Middle Manager). It's one of the things I always loved about this game: how the whole city was just full of detritus nobody could be arsed to deal with: broken machines, abandoned tools, empty boxes, valuable materia.... The glittering city of Midgar is just a big trash dump.
Obviously the sewers have their own monster problems. But sahagins aren't like grashstrikes: they are self-aware, they have a rudimentary culture. They defend themselves fiercely against invaders but they don't venture out into the human world. Maybe they're the ones who keep the sewers relatively clean?

Aerith (27, Cloud (28), Tifa (L27) I am currently maining Aerith but I used Cloud a lot when I was levelling up my Cleansing materia at the arena, he went up a few levels in the process and I also got some other materia levelled up too! (so Aerith is now rocking L3 Fire, Ice, Lightning and Wind materias on her shiny new arcane sceptre, Prayer is nearly L4 too)
Let's see, I try to explore everywhere, I backtrack a lot including to see if I missed things or after some time has passed go back to see if it'll let me collect some things it didn't before. I try to soak up the atmospheres to a significant extent, reading the random npc dialogue, after a significant event happens I take a quick lap around to see if any npc dialogue has changed or been added or if notable NPCs (like Johnny's Father) have popped up, if they have I'll have another quick look for them again later to see if they went somewhere else. I did random things like seeing if I could take Aerith back to the church or the park (I could but for the latter, she wouldn't use the tire hop or the slides like Cloud or try the swings =-( ), and enjoyed having her around, soaking up the music sometimes, vibing by the joke box watching her and Cloud dance. I relished the brief times I was in control of Aerith, like when she was in her red dress, I went to see where it would let me explore with her (not very far) and note the NPCs particularly the Poet, and I explored Corneo's house with her and found treasures (Fury Ring) When I was Aerith in Madam M's parlour I pressed Triangle at certain objects and got scolded by Madam M, it was funny and when I was controlling Cloud and both he and Aerith were in there dresses I went for another trip around town (I found Sam and Madam M and got a cutscene conversation this way) , and the Poet had new dialogue too.
I had way too much fun in Chapter 9, I love it and C8 a lot. I'm having way too much fun in general. Did you know you can kick and shift the bandits around the screen at the campsite when they are lying on the ground or barge into the NPCs and knock them off balance?

I destroyed poor APs (reloaded so I could save the horns though) at the start and my characters wiped the floor with the mobs in here in general. I don't think there is anything else I can currently do here except fight more, and work on gaining the proficiency bonuses for and learn the character abilities for Tifa and I can do that in the next Chapter!

I'm paying waaayyy too little attention to detail here! Reading all your comments makes it clear to me. Well, that'll make future playthroughs just more interesting!
It's probably because there are no random encounters anymore that I don't use all the fighting mechanics and tactics, because I'm generally too lazy/ excited for the story to go back and look if enemies have reappeared. Random encounters would take that problem out of my hands.
And the bosses stress me out way too much to remember tactics (that's why I always miss stealing important stuff from them! This and I often haven't got the materia equipped).
I enjoyed the hands though. I love it when iconic stuff I wonder whether it'll appear or not appears in the end.
(Is that even correct English? Sometimes my brain can't get around the grammar.)

i managed to get frog cloud and frog aerith (mainly cloud, he just kept getting froggy)
i liked the added character interactions, but i kind of wish the level was slightly shorter. like, take out one of the sections where you're going up and down ladders and pulling levers from each section.
do you get something extra for destroying parts of enemies like the horns on the boss? i know there's a little note added in the enemy info (at least i think there's one) and sometimes they get weakened, but are there rewards or items or a trophy or something. i only managed to get one horn this time, didn't get the option to target the other for the rest of the battle. and does it make a difference which horn you target (i did the right horn iirc), like how lost number in the original game changed depending on how you fought it.

I loved this chapter because I love Tifa and Aerith's friendship.
LTD choice: I instinctively went for Tifa first, and had already pressed triangle when I was like "oh no, I made the cardinal sin of choosing between my two waifus, please forgive me." I think the dialogue for talking to Tifa is better tho, imo.

I thought that sound was Aerith being frustrated and grossed out. And it was a mix of a shudder, cringe and the sound one makes when touching something gross and whining about it.
I've heard people make similar noises when grossed out. So that is what I thought it was. LOL wow.
