FFVII REMAKE CONFIRMED

I played the game and Aerith did, in fact, sacrifice herself to save the planet. She also sacrificed herself for Cloud, so he'd continue growing. She knew she wasn't coming back when she headed out to the Forgotten City. I can't believe people still try to erase Aerith's impact.

How would reviving Aerith mess up the story? I've asked people this and they can't debate me and show me a valid reason why it would ruin the story.

No one's tried to erase Aerith's impact.

Here, I'll quote from valid reasons from the previous page:
It just cheapens the emotional impact and gravitas of her death. If SE has DLC where you bring her back to life, they might as well just not have her die in the first place. It's pointless pandering to the fanbase like that ruins a good story, and I've been burned too many times by shit like that.
Having a way to resuscitate her would completely negate the impact of her death. In real life, we can't bring the ones we loved back to life, no matter how much we yearn for it.

Saying Aerith didn't know she was going to die is, literally, erasing her impact of self sacrifice.

Those really seem like poor reasons on why she can't come back. They brought Tidus back for crying out loud! If they can bring him back and not ruin the FFX story then why not Aerith? Poor girl deserves some happiness!

Really? I wonder? I don't think that's it at all.
I think she didn't think she would die at all, but that she planned on coming back all along.
She always used to talk about the 'Next time'.
She talked about the future more than any of us...
Although she never talked about it to us she must've had a rough life...
I think Aeris looked forward to tomorrow and the future more than anyone...
...she must've had many many dreams......

^I'd think this is supposed to be the answer. That Aerith didn't plan on sacrificing herself but wanted to return.

Also, the devs confirmed that her death was supposed to meaningless. Just a violent, senseless murder. It was supposed to be about how the death of someone you care about just hits you when least expect it and then you just have to deal with it and move on.

Part of why Zack and Aerith giving Cloud some closure from the great beyond in Advent Children is pretty lame imo :monster:

Also, loads of people would absolutely argue that Tidus returning in X-2 *does* ruin the ending of X.

I too played the game, and Aerith didn't sacrifice herself. She didn't know she was going to her death. She says,
"It's only a matter of time before Sephiroth uses Meteor.
That's why I'm going to protect it. Only a survivor of the Cetra, like me, can do it.
The secret is just up here.
At least it should be. ...I feel it. It feels like I'm being led by something.
Then, I'll be going now. I'll come back when it's all over."
I'll come back when it's all over.

People don't always get what they deserve. That's life.

Aerith didn't need to die to save the Planet, she didn't intend to die, and she didn't know she was going to die. She died because that's what people do. They die randomly, at unexpected times, and sometimes they die just when you need them most. They die and they don't come back. Ever.

Far from erasing her impact, the tragic and cruel pointlessness of her death is the very essence of her impact.

I don't know I think it might encourage more people to use Aerith if they were aware they were going to continue to get a return on their investment in the form of DLC or something even if it's just for gameplay purposes especially with this whole new system they are doing with skills attached to and learnable from weapons and what nots ?

My dude, I suppose you haven't seen (or rather, heard) the hot mess that is FFX -Will-. (and by extension, 2.5 novel) Just because they can bring back a character from the dead, doesn't mean that they should.

Other reasons why Aerith should not be bought back to life for dumb plot/fanservice reasons: Aside from her death, what else makes her an iconic heroine of VII? of the entire Final Fantasy series? What makes her still so appealing to her fanbase, even today? Her personality? Her looks? Her role as Cloud's love interest?
Prior to VII, character death happened like this: Anna, who dies protecting Edward; Tellah, who died trying to get revenge on Golbez; Galuf saving his grandaugther from ExDeath; Leo trying to stop Kefka. You can expect death to happen to NPCS, or to other characters who would go down fighting in a blaze of glory, but you wouldn't expect the main hero and/or heroine to die, ever.

Aerith dying at the end of disk 1 changed all of that. Shit got real with her death. I remember my first time playing, thinking "she'll come back, right? Tellah kinda came back in IV as a spirit to help out, and so did Galuf, so maybe the same thing will happen. Maybe there'll be a sidequest to bring her back to life." But it never happened, and the last time we ever see her in game is during the ending. And I'm glad that she never truly came back, because it made her stand out even more.

Aerith was vibrant young woman, who had hopes for the future. She had no intentions of dying, but it's the tragedy of her death that truly makes her stand out as a heroine, because heroines aren't supposed to die halfway through the story.
Resurrecting Aerith in the Remake just because she deserves to be alive and happy would be a disservice to what made Aerith an iconic heroine, and a slap to the face of those who have loved FFVII for the past 22 years.

Famitsu article got translated it looks, I'm still reading through it but this caught my attention:

Yellow blossoms on sale from the Flower Girl. Flowers of this type are said to stand for “Reunion”.

While there are a variety of Reunions that occur in the game, the fact they're using that word makes me wonder about the potential of hidden and darker meanings.

No kidding!
It's not that I wouldn't expect to find it in the slums. But why hasn't Shinra appropriated this lovely place and made it their own? They're really failing to live up to their rep as evil grasping greedy bastards who hog all the nice stuff for themselves.
What's more, why hasn't this piece of prime underplate real estate been invaded by hordes of ruthless slum landlords? How do Elmyra and Aerith manage to live there in peace?

I suppose the area is a little too far removed for them. Perhaps the position and relative size of the area means it's not worth the effort for the vegetation that they're probably not too interested in to begin with. How much do people in Midgar really care about flowers? I imagine the ruling slum elite don't, and ol' President Shinra is fine giving those down below a little something of their own.

^ This on both counts.

It seems like they’re really not doing the Mad Max thing with Midgar anymore, in favour of emphasizing the city eclectic nature (aka putting in enough colour to call it “a complete final fantasy experience” perhaps?) The result is that I don’t feel as cornered/desperate/willing to join up with Avalanche (doubly so since it’s now a violent splinter cell in a larger network).

THAT said, I also didn’t like all the copy/paste flowers and the waterfall at Aeris’ house in the OG, but my headcanon went “that waterfall is run-off from the Plate’s storm sewers and Aeris hand-planted all those flowers, but the dirt won’t keep them.” Bye headcanon! It’s been a slice.

“They say you can’t grow things in Midgar...”

No hun you’re thinking of Edge. Midgar is much nicer.

^ Well, I've been wondering about Elmyra's nice little estate even in the OG. I was thinking "man, Shinra's war pension must be pretty hefty".
As ForceStealer said, maybe the Turks have a hand in keeping the rabble out.

On the topic of Elmyra and Aerith's house: with the remake, they were able to fix a few issues the OG had in these environments - the sort you don't spot immediately, but when you've spent more than a hundred of hours studying them... - for instance, having the interior match the exterior, or having an actually functional staircase inside (in the OG, the slope of the stairs inside has an angle of 60 degrees - which technically qualifies as a "ladder" - whereas an angle ~30 degrees is the norm in the real world).

Also, in the OG, there was no way you could access that little terrace on the rooftops (the exterior field had a door leading to it, but the interior field had no stairway to get there). I want to be able to go there!

Obviously Tifa shouldn’t be a variable in this considering she’s just a backup character next to Cloud and Aerith - who are the true main heroes. Also, considering Tifa saw her as a rival and didn't know her like Cloud did, I'd say she was wrong.

Just because it's meaningless doesn't mean she can't come back? You do know we're talking about Final FANTASY right? Obviously you guys don’t understand how tragic it is for Aerith to be the sole Cetra and having her life taken away like that! The story can be so much more interesting if she were to be revived and uncover cetra truths and also fulfill her love to Cloud!

Btw, how is that meaningless? Did you lot play the game? She SACRIFICED herself. She KNEW she WASN'T coming back! C'mon, people! Play the darn game!

I think y’all forget that Aerith being the last Cetra means that she could uncover truths about Jenova and Cetra history. Did y’all think about that? Hmm? I smell sexism that many are fine with Tidus’ revival but can’t fathom the main heroine of FF7 to return!

Plus maybe with the extra money they’ll get from selling such an awesome DLC will save them from bankruptcy.

Uhhhh ok then

… Am I the only one who thinks it'd be slightly concerning if Aeris knew she was going to die and that she was about to scar her mentally unstable crush forever without leaving any sort of explanation behind and in her last moments she was just like

:)

Also, I’d find it slightly amusing if after all these years of people building up intricate head canons to make sense of Aeris’ house Square’s explanation in the remake was basically “LOL weird am I right”

Yeah, that's what it feels like. If not a troll you may want to consider toning it down, NazMan. Most people here have played the game, quit telling them that they haven't just because they have a different interpretation on a character than what you have.

The sexism remark makes no sense seeing as Tetsujin pretty much said the complete opposite of that, people DO have a problem with Tidus getting revived in X-2. A lot of people.

Also, Nomura stated in the Famitsu 20.06.2019 interview that both Aerith and Tifa are heroines. So, yeah. Not a backup character :monster:

Was just coming in here to say..

As others have pointed out, Naz, I don't care for the way that you're talking down to the other members here and ask that you either agree to disagree and move on from the subject or else cool your tone.

Our members here, generally speaking, are a thoughtful, considerate bunch with a love for FFVII and a great understanding of it's story and characters, and so for you to assert that they "obviously don't understand" Aerith's story and the tragic elements surrounding it and for you to insultingly insist that they "play the darn game" is extremely oft-putting. And please don't even start with that 'sexist' nonsense lmfao.

Again, I don't care for this attitude and hostility you're bringing here and ask that you tone it down a notch. :)

tl/dr: bruh chill tf out or move on pls thanks!! <3

Okay, now I'm starting to think that Nazman is trolling. :monster:

I am not trolling, nor am I taking this too far. I am simply sharing my opinions that are inferred by facts. Nomura said that because of the surge of fans that Tifa gathered. It would be an awful business move to not throw in Tifa in that interview as fan service. Also, it is no secret that Tifa was added as an after thought and as Aerith’s filler.

Last time I checked, I am not sending pornography nor spamming like actual rabid trolls in this fandom. But ok, I’ll refrain from being too liberal with my thoughts around here.
