FFVII Remaster instead of Full Remake?

Maybe FFVII should just get a remaster instead of a full remake?

A remaster could include

- 1080p / 60fps
- Leaderboards
- Possible Multiplayer
- zoomed in 16:9 aspect ratio. The same way a 2.40:1 film gets converted to 16:9 for television. The camera tracks the player as he moves.
- Higher poly game models (in field and in battle) moreso then the PC version
- Full voice acting option
- Option for midi or orchestrated music
- FFX style music and cutscene viewer
- Difficulty level for minigames like Chocobo racing and Fort Condor
- Simplified battle HUD (like this.)

I think this is the way they should handle a 'remake'.

I'd happily pay full price

Does anyone else like this idea?

I'm torn. Just remastering the game means that it's unlikely the flaws of the original game would be fixed, but it also means Square Enix has less of a chance to screw it up. Whether I'd prefer a remaster or a full remake probably would depend on who was involved in the project.

Though with my current level of involvement with JRPGs (almost none), odds are slim that I'd play either.

At this point I couldn't settle for a remaster, even if it's obviously the best and most viable option. When I first played FFVII it left the competition in the dust, and for me that became a fundamental part of the experience. I just couldn't enjoy an update unless it recaptured that magic.

I'm not sure that there would be a point to voice acting in the absence of significantly more detailed models and expressions. Lines like those Cloud says when Aerith had just been murdered were written as they were because the models at the time couldn't effectively portray the grief and anger on his face.

A remaster wouldn't excite me too much, because deep down I know 40% of the reason I want a remake is to see Advent Children quality Cloud in a dress.

After what I've seen of FFXV and the PS4, the hardware's almost primed for a remake. At least in regards to photo-realistic open environments with minimal invisible walls (I did see one in XV).

The other requirements are battle systems and cut scenes, which Square obviously has down. It was really the series of tunnels, instead of open land, that was holding them back with remakes of the older games.

I used to think that if VII had been redone in VIII's style, I'd die a happy man. However, after all the tech demo teases, Advent Children, and games that have followed, a remaster just would not cut it. The prospect of seeing VII in it's full glory would just be insane. I just couldn't settle for anything less at this point.

I used to be most concerned about what they would change to the battle system and the materia (partly looking at you Crisis Core). But rewatching XV, and if you think back to the original E3 2006 demo for XIII, I think everything is falling into place and they can now actually make it work.

They'd fix the 'inconsistencies' with the rest of the compilation, but I don't think they'd stop there, they'd probably include a load of other new irritating shite.

Right now I'd just prefer it if they left it the fuck alone :monster:

I'd be happy if they just released it in higher resolution with an updated translation. =/
Actually, I'd also like to have higher quality character models and re-rendered HD backgrounds (still fixed 2D though!). Render them in 8K or something to future-proof them for the next couple of years. :monster:
Higher-quality music would also be nice.

So I guess I'd really like to see an enhanced port/remaster.
