I was hoping for not just Remake but also FF7 Crisis Core Reunion that they sell a classic voice pack, sure it be expensive like maybe 69.99 but to me it’s worth it

Dude Disney just bought the voice from Darth Vader by using a A.I synthetic voice to make him sound younger, if we have this technology then they could do the same thing with the old cast of voice actors

Seriously, no one cares enough to do that for CC's psp cast and they shouldn't in the first place. It's stupid and creepy. The amount of people harping on this is negligible and I wish FFVII could be a normal fandom and just hyper-fixate on literally anything else. It's so stupid.

It's mostly because of Rick Gomez, George Newburn, Quinton Flynn, and Steve Burton, right? Maybe also Steve Blum, though we haven't hear Vincent's new VA yet.
Most of the original VAs weren't any good in the first place, and I doubt people care that much that they're gone, so it must be because of one of those guys.

Just because you don’t care doesn’t mean we do, you know I was totally ok with it and already posted it days after this thread but now you got me on this trail, I’m going to at least voice my opinion and think it’s messed up not using the original voices because they were the voice of ff7 to me since advent children to dirge, go ahead and like what you like but I can voice my opinion

That article was written in response to the PSX 2015 trailer in which Steve Burton voices Cloud, so I’m not sure what posting it was meant to prove as it then goes on to call the voice acting “atrocious”.
At any rate, sure, there’s certainly an audience who’d want the old VA’s back but at this point it’s about as fruitless as wanting SE to toss all of the remake’s new story elements out the window. Best to just let it go and move on at this point.

Your source is…some random op-eds online? I don’t even disagree about there being a fanbase that wants the old VAs back, mainly because those Operation Reunion weirdos would drone on with their crackpot tinfoil hat theories about why the VAs were changed.
Like sure, there’s some fans who want the old VAs just as there’s some fans who want the remake to just follow the OG. But given how successful Remake was and the sheer amount of hype for Rebirth…yeah, I don’t think SE is all too concerned about what the fringes of the fanbase want.
Also, not to be irreverent but who the hell can sit through something like Advent Children’s English dub and think “damn, we were robbed of 40+ hours of this?!” lol. It might do these folks’ sanity some good to just give up on this crusade.

I have a soft spot emotionally for Burton because he always seemed so personally excited about the role (whether that actually showed up in his performance is another question, lol), and there were particular lines of his that I genuinely did think were on point. I also thought he tended to improve with each subsequent appearance (save Dissidia, but that clearly had awful direction across the board). But there's simply no denying that Cloud was better in Remake in basically every way.
Prior to Briana White, Andrea Bowen was the only Aerith that was even tolerable, and even then it only really fit her younger self.
Beau Billingslea is a great actor, and I'm sure he would have done well with Remake Barret, but Bentley knocked it out of the freakin park. I can't fathom thinking we missed out on anything there.
I didn't have any big problem with Cook's Tifa (poor girl got some awful lines to deal with), but as with the others, she's clearly better now.
Yuffie has had multiple voice actors, so as with Aerith, who do these people even MEAN by "original?" In any case, Yeung's was excellent.
So far, if I had to pick, I would give the edge to Newbern's Sephiroth, but frankly the difference is negligible. He sounds pretty dang similar.
As I've made clear, I think Zack is the only definite downgrade. And that is unfortunate for Crisis Core, because Gomez really did his all to carry that lousy script. I would hope it it wouldn't matter that much for the remake, but lol now we know Zack will be inescapable, and I wouldn't like that anymore if it were Gomez. But since all the lines actually exist, sure I'd take a mod that stuck in his voice for CC. But petitions to rehire him? Waste of time

Oh, without a doubt. I think the combination of better direction, more natural sounding localization, and a new cast made for an all-around higher quality dub this time around. Like, I very rarely wanted to rip my ears out hearing the characters talk in Remake and there were even some moments that genuinely surprised me at how well-executed they were.
Also, respect to Steve Burton and Rachel Leigh Cook’s work but Cody Christian’s Cloud and Britt Baron’s Tifa just sold so well for me that I have no desire to go back. Especially with Tifa, Cook’s voice feels to me like it would fit Aerith more and Baron’s voice has this sort of sweet-sounding huskiness that just feels so right for the character. Not to mention John Eric Bentley as Barret like, holy crap, he’s perfect.

My friend, none of those are examples of great English dubs, quite the opposite really. Good on you for enjoying them and I feel for those who are frustrated about the new VAs but I’m not one to supersede quality with nostalgia. It is what it is.

I get what you mean in terms of emotional attachment but they are not people in my home being replaced by strangers, they are fictional characters. Those characters still exist, the work of the old VAs still exists, and the world still keeps on spinning.
And yes, this is not the original but it is still FF7 regardless of which Western voice actors get checks from a Japanese multi-billion dollar company.
