I think they had it on their website running up to the japanese launch

Yeah, it was similar to what they did with Advent Children, except it had more chapters up online (I think 3, compared to just the Denzel chapter for AC) before releasing the book.

I learn these things so late in the game - okay, maybe not so late...

There are two, from what I'm reading. The one I posted a link to - supposedly the only good fan-translation out there (according to one person on the forum I got it) and then another...

I'm trying to find the other! ... And, printing out the fan-translation.

Oh, and there are seven chapters, one epilogue (present day) and then two pre-quel chapters to the one I gave the link to.
