First Impressions

All right, to try and keep everything from being piled into that thread, as people get the movie and watch it, use this to talk about your first impressions.

This should go without saying, but spoilers abound.

I just watched it and, wow. It really does put the original to shame. The first thing I really wanna comment on is something very striking about this over the original: the SOUND. I don't know if its Blu-Ray, or they just re-did all the sounds (or both) because everything is incredible. They also revoiced all the fighting grunts and stuff, interestingly.

Also, as has been mentioned, the music has been changed. I expected things to just be stretched to fit longer scenes - no. Scenes that haven't been changed at all (like the first bike chase) have their music rearranged to fit what's going on (Like Yazoo flipping over Cloud). The extended bike chase hints at the battle theme, I think - not sure.

And a touch I really like: anytime Sephiroth's Masamune passes near the "camera" a high noise like a tuning fork has been stuck is heard. With every movement of the blade it makes the sound. Very ethereal and threatening, its great.

SO much more exposition! Rufus explains a lot (although, one complaint his speaks much more ominously this time around. Makes him sound a little too evil rather than just cocky.) Kadaj explains more, Geostigma looks freaking TERRIBLE. The Cloud and Marlene exchange was freaking gold. I absolutely loved when Marlene imitated Barret and called him Daddy. I'm glad that she mentioned him, not just Tifa and Cloud. And Cloud is pretty good with kids after all. At the risk of sounding like a fangirl, it was pretty adorable.

On Marlene, her recast (in English) is fantastic! I never really had much of a problem with her voice before, but her new one can ACT. Her delivery is better than some of the adults, I wholeheartedly approve of that casting change.

I'm digging the larger role of the Turks. Its nice to see more of Tseng and Elena, AND Reno and Rude are still funny but being less goofy. The goof-level is about equivalent to the way they were in VII.

I also loved the Sephiroth lines coming almost straight out of VII from when Aeris dies. Cloud gets pretty eff'd up in the fight, its crazy. The Zack exchange was awesome. And I loved the added emphasis on Sephiroth's shock with Omnislash ver. 5.

All in all, I was pretty much blown away. The likes of Masamune probably still won't like it, but even he will have to admit that its a big improvement.

Also, what was this big Cloti ending people were going on about...the ending was the same, just with the little Denzel bit after the credits.

Wait huh? The sequence of Cloud driving in the flower field and stuff is still there?

And just some clarification. When Cloud is driving in the Sleeping Forest towards the Forgotten Capital, he still sees Aerith and has her back to her right? Was that cut?

Were the Aerith scenes deleted? Because I keep hearing stuff about how Aerith's scenes were deleted out, and I'm not liking that. And also, it was about the twenty minute movie - I'm assuming that there isn't one after all.

Wow, I'm getting more and more excited for this movie. :D I'm pretty happy with the additional scene where Cloud saves Tifa, and especially the extra Zack scenes. ^_^

Wow! Thanks for your input, Forcestealer! :)

Could you please tell something, how is Sephiroth's death scene?

Is it different from the original AC?

I remember hearing that about the Aeris scenes too, but they're still there. Cloud driving during the credits is there, but they overlay scenes from the movie at certain parts, and they DON'T show Aeris, so I guess that's what they were talking about.

Sephiroth dies the same way. But grunts and stuff as he gets hit. It shows him looking around frantically trying to place where Cloud is. It shows him get sufficiently more owned than before. but "I will never be a memory" and the wing dissolving thing are still there.

Ahh okay. Thank you so much for the clarification :monster:

So yeah, that makes sense. ^^

Okay, one more thing. The ending with the Buster Sword in the Church. Who does he take to see it? Is it Denzel with him? Or is it Denzel and Tifa?

You don't actually see. It just shows the grave and the Buster Sword and you hear them talking.

And I know this was discussed elsewhere: I know what Cloud means by "Its where a hero began his journey" but it does kinda come off as though he's talking about himself, lol. Tootin' your own horn there, Cloud? :monster:

OH! And there are Chocobos in the OVA :P

Nah, I think it's pretty obvious its just Cloud and Denzel :monster:

In regards to the final fight, is there a moment Sephiroth looks pissed off? I remember a screenshot from the Dengeki PS3 April issue that shows Sephiroth looking mad as hell. What's that from?

They don't show Aerith in the last part? Huh... I wonder why they scratched out that last scene though.

Did you by any chance read the revised Case of Tifa and Barret novellas? And also...

DOES CLOUD CATCH TIFA WITH HIS LEFT ARM?

Forcestealer can't read Japanese, silly :monster:

Holy shit, Pixel. You asked the important question. I hope to Jesus Christ in Heaven that it is not her again. Omg. Please tell me its the CC Aerith, for fuck's sake.

Does Aerith have any new additional voice liners?

Does Tifa have more besides when Cloud saves her?

Oh, he doesn't know Japanese? Oops. :monster:

I feel bad for Forcestealer. :monster:

By the way, Mako, is it alright if I make a separate thread for Case of Denzel? Because I have screenshots... or do I just add it to the picture thread?

Aeris is still Mena Suvari, and has no new lines, sorry. Its kinda weird, cause the Moogle girl has several new lines, and she's Andrea Bowen...who now sounds like Aeris to me because of Crisis Core.

And pissed off...could you tell what part of the fight it was? During Omnislash he mostly looks stunned and, as I said, desperately trying to pinpoint where Cloud is.

And catch Tifa with his left arm? When he saves her? I'm not sure, it happens kinda fast. But him throwing his sword around is awesome.

Oh, they also fixed the flub of Cloud drawing the wrong sword in the forgotten city (I was looking for that one)

Poor Force...... People are almost interrogating you...
And I damn you SQEX..... Mena Suvari is nearly the incarnation of devil itself

Well that really pisses me off.

A lot. They got a new voice for Aerith in CC..but then go back to that limp dick Mena Suvari, and not only that but its still the same shitty delivery from the original. That's fucking lame. Ugh.

God, I want to hear this in Japanese now. Can't wait for the US release with subs! :monster:

She still has hardly any lines, and this is further amplified by the fact that the movie's longer. It really didn't bother me. And Burton and Newbern are really settling in their roles, the new lines are fantastic. Like I said Marlene blew me away, Reno and Rude's new lines are solid, as are Kadaj's, Yazoo's, and Loz's
