I hope everyone is as well as can be in such times. Seeing that I, like most others is partaking in a period of government sponsored self isolation I thought I'd peruse the internet for some much needed distractions and tickle a curiosity here and there.

Only the God's know how many hours I spent on the Final Fantasy games over the years but I sadly stopped after 10. Time and the responsibilities of life caught up with me in the end so it put an end to my nocturnal adventures.

That's enough for now, the kettle is calling.

Ah yeah, I've heard of that show but never watched it. And you're welcome! Have fun!

Yeah, I've always liked it. One of my favorite moments of the movie. And did you know that Bill Paxton (Hudson) had no idea they were going to do it? His reaction in the scene is quite real. Virtually everyone on set knew about it but him.

Butting in to say that Millennium is said to be quite good, and some people even venture that it's better than The X-Files. If you like mystery and supernatural, that your series.

***Urge to gush intensifies***

I'm going to come back to this later because you're right and it's definitely worth a watch even if it is a tad cerebral and heavy in places.

Apologies for the double post but to continue what I was going to say earlier.

Part of Millenniums appeal to me aside from the Crime investigation and forensics. Was that it was gritty for its time. Crime shows up until that point were by in large in the shape of dramas, goofy bromances or functioning alcoholics.

Millennium was a sharp look through the microscope at human madness. For its time it was very dark and at times unforgiving. The Xfiles to me ended up becoming a parody of itself. Although they are two very different shows I'd argue that Millennium actually had something to say. It also came at a time of angst surrounding the turn of the new millennium. We basically follow retired FBI profiler Frank Black as he works for a group of retired specialist call the Millennium group who lend their experience to current cases usually to do with cults/weirdness but not of the Xfiles kind. More along the line of skewed religious beliefs and human perversions.

We then come to learn that Frank is trying his hardest to keep his own environment in order and keep his inner scaffolding from collapsing in on itself. The show itself changed format a couple of times which kept it fresh plus rather than build up an air of mystery around the killers, we got a good look at their mindsets. So it wasn't a show about how clever the detective is but how deprived a human being can be at times.

I have to say I enjoyed it but was left frustrated at the lack of closure due to the show being cancelled. We got something like closure when the '' finale '' actually appeared in the form of an Xfile episode that was really just about how big Fox Mulder's sausage is.

Its worth a watch and holds up pretty well, I get a kick out of Frank using the old dial up modems and printers. But sadly Crime shows resorted to type in the form of Horatio smart mouthing the bad guys before walking away in slow motion.or kids straight out of uni wearing $500 jackets and performing forensics in ten minutes with zero PPE. So it holds a special place for me it was a good ride.

Rant over lol.

I'm yet to come around and commit to watch that series. Back in the day (some years ago) I had the time and energy to watch Stargate and Farscape back to back, but right now I have to think it twice. I have to do it, though, because the ones who recomende it to me say exactly the same things.

But let me tell you, I got that strong nostalgia for some 90's shows on which the characters didn't have to look straight out of a magazine cover or a Victoria's secret catalog, and investigation and interrogation were done by the police or the FBI, not a labrat. And, the script focused on the procedure, not whom is beding whom at the precint.

Yeah, I'm a child from the 90's and still remember a world without smartphones, Internet, Youtube, Instagram or social media :monster:

I hear you, the 90's....Enough technology to do the job for us, but not so much technology that we don't know how to do the job without it.

I quickly became bored of the crime shows of the early 2000's where people couldn't look down a microscope without pouting or everybody starting their shift saying they only get 4 hours sleep a night as they clutch some coffee yet still manage to look like they've just come off the back of a photoshoot in Milan.

I tried to get into Castle, which I know is supposed to be light hearted but seeing professional adults behaving like clueless teenagers when dealing with each others feelings was just far too immature.

Or how about that weird phase where it was cool to be a psychopath.

I only ever recall trying to binge Millennium once and just about went head first into an existential crisis. Millennium has its flaws for sure but there's nobody walking around looking smoking hot and to cool for school having all the answers whilst being detached from everything going on around them. You feel the weight increasing on Frank's shoulders with each passing episode.

I'd limit yourself to one episode every now and then.

Let me know if you ever get into it.

Nice to have you here ? you seem like you're gonna fit in great!

Yeah, the early 2000 was a weird time. It looked like the popular students at high school playing at being clever at the lab and streetwise in the slums, all the while looking fabulous. I enjoyed Castle, though, maybe because I'm very partial to Nathan Fillion :awesome: (I have to admit that the romance subplot was a bit tiring after some while), but only until season 7. Season 8 doesn't exist to me.

Ah, yes, I'm familiar with that show-induced existential crisis. Once upon a time I wanted to delve into the post-nuclear themed literature as a writer and decided to document myself. Watched a film called Threads (1984), which triggered some sort of a depression crisis on me. I though afterwards that I was a damn softie, and then I discovered that said film is one of the hardest ones to stomach ever, even after being hardened with other post-apocalyptic works, and that it still scares the hell out of people who watched it back in the day. Only recomend it if you trully want to see the raw horror of a post-nuclear event and what happens during a nuclear winter in the course of the following 13 years after the detonation (spoiler: is nightmare inducing and without a single spot for hope of any kind. Ever).

Long story short, I abandoned that genre altogether and never looked back. I prefer fantasy and happy endings, thank you very much.

Will start the series probably during these days. Lately only the Mandalorian has been able to keep me glued to the screen from start to finish on each episode, and I had to limit the watching because I didn't want it to end that quicky. Then I only have enough attention span for meme videos and fail compilations. In prior months it was because of tiredness, now it's because my brain is a mess.
