If you have some time, read through this.

Try to be patient, a lot of these questions/thoughts are from people that played the game once/aren't fans of it like we are/don't understand everything about it/casuals, so try not to NERDRAGE if you see a question wondering about something that's common knowledge to us. However, there are some pretty interesting thoughts from fans far and wide. Here are some;

The whole incident at Nibelheim seems to have been caused by very poor judgement on the part of SOLDIER officers. I mean, they decided to send Sephiroth investigate a mako reactor... the reactor in which they kept his "mommy", Jenova. Also, the Shinra Manor, which holds all the useful documentation about Sephiroth's origins, is located in the same village. Am I the only one who feels that Sephiroth was the last person they should have decided to send there ? Granted, Crisis Core tells us that SOLDIER had lost about all of its best staff, leaving only Zack and Sephiroth to do the job... well, they'd have been better off sending Zack alone - or even accompanied by a 2nd or 3rd class. Which also makes me wonder why they absolutely had to send their most powerful fighters to do an investigation job... Poor decision indeed. Maybe they just didn't have any capable leader after Lazard left.

Going to Nibelheim in the present always bothered this troper, after all of the residents have been replaced by Shinra actors (I assume). Everyone seems to take it in stride-the party, Shinra, everyone. Considering how much restraint Cloud usually shows, I could never understand why we didn't have a full-on "No, I mean, seriously. This is my house. Get out." moment in his mother's house.

Vincent. Buddy. I know you were in love with Lucrecia, but seriously, what the hell did you ever see in her? Choosing to experiment on her own child pushed her across the Moral Event Horizon right there. But even before that, she strung you along in some sort of close relationship until you found out she knew your dad, ditched you and broke your heart, and went for the rebound with Hojo, which should count as a second Moral Event Horizon. Oh, and then when you got shot defending her, she used you to prove her thesis (and save you, but pretty much by turning you into an undead monster/Planet avatar). And when you finally saw her again decades later, she did nothing but feel sorry for herself. Seriously dude, you're being an emotionally-stunted emo goth over her? C'mon, man.

Skim through some, and if you see anything cool/interesting, post it here and let's talk about it.

I know it's TVTropes, so be careful that it doesn't suck your soul, it's incredibly easy to spend hours there.

After skimming through the 50, "WHY CAN'T AERISTH CUME BACK, PHOENIX DOWNS FTW!!!11" comments I found one I like. c:

If Lower Junon is a really polluted and dirty place with no fish, then why is the water so clean-looking? In the underwater tunnel leading to the Junon Reactor, you can clearly see schools of fish swimming around in there without a problem, and "Mr. Dolphin" swims happily near the beach. Even the music is bright and cheery.

It's just so irrelevent and low key that I don't know who exactly noticed that. I understand Mr. Dolpin and questioning him, but actually noticing fish swimming by? I'll have to check my game tonight. There you go contridicting yourselves again SE. 9.9

I know this isn't FF7 related but I just have to post this because it made me laugh.

Why, in the opening sequence, is everyone except Tidus running towards the wall of water that you can see when the fayth stops time?

(response) * They are running from the Sin Spawn, Zanarkand is a city that relies heavily on water so presumably most of the populace can swim. Would you rather take your chances with water or an army of murderous bugs.

But please, carry on.

Those are all interesting points, actually. I love Tropes.

The Present-day Nibleheim is an especially good point. That's actually a really messed up situation when you think about it. You would think Cloud would flip out, especially since he says several times throughout the game that he's mad at Sephiroth for killing his mother...

And A-freaking-men at the Vincent thing. Square did a craptacular job showing any kind of reason how he could possibly like her in DOC's flashbacks.

It's hard not to notice the entire aquarium when you're in that underwater tunnel in Junon. That's what he's referring to.

Why is Cait Sith in Advent Children? Is Reeve STILL piloting that thing?

The answer is simple. Reeve Tuesti is a furry. Duh.

what the fuck was Hojo thinking trying to breed Red XIII and Aerith?

Again. Obvious question is obvious. Hojo has very exotic tastes.

Gosh, these people are like...crazy. :awesome:

@ Hojo attempting to 'mate' Red XIII x Aerith ...

I bet Hojo writes crazy fanfiction on the side. That old lech~! :P But in all seriousness, this is the guy who experimented on his own son/pregnant Lucrecia (whether she was his lover/wife/whatever is questioned depending on the source). So I guess beastiality isn't a big deal to him?

Vincent/Lucrecia is one of my favorite pairings. :)
I like the pairing (and the individual characters) as well, I just dislike how Square portrayed them- especially Lucrecia. I think they made her look like an emotional fool who I questioned could even legitimately be a doctor of any kind. Yes, she was influenced mentally by a combination of Jenova cells, pregnancy/hormones, exhaustion, guilt toward Vincent, and being in some kind of relationship with Hojo -- but wow, my acceptance of certain things has its limitations.

And then in terms of how their 'relationship' is portrayed, just... no. I see few sane reasons why they'd be involved romantically in any angle, as the Tropes quote mentioned. The whole Grimoire/guilt angle just completely ruined it for me... and it just got worse. And then as a result, Vincent looks kind of odd pining over this woman he says "loves" when all you really see are like, two scenes where they're sorta-kinda flirting (the dance & the picnic).

I greatly simplified my opinion because I don't want to detract from the original topic, but yeah, that's my 10 cents on that.

Maybe Hojo was all about the cross-species relationships. Breeding different species of monster in his lab. Imagine the possibilities: crossing an elphadunk with a stilva to get a six-legged, pincer-trunked, bubble-blowing enemy.

You could get anything imaginable.

Maybe that's how Christopher from the Northern Cave came to be!!!!!!!!

I should start that thread...

Christopher and the little horse/deer guy with him are some of my fav enemies because they're so random.

Anyway, I agree- look at what you encounter in Shinra Mansion, after all- Lost Number (the guy in the safe) and Yin-Yan in the basement, and that's just for starters.

Which reminds me- when you look at what else you encounter in the Mansion, you wonder why Vincent isn't more messed up looking, especially considering Hojo pretty much hated his guts.

HAHA YES! YES! My thoughts exactly! XD

This quote brings up the reason why I actually LIKE Genesis being in Nibelheim. It seemed as if Sephiroth went there of his own volition because he was after Genesis. CC kind of made it seem like yeah, nobody knew and it wasn't such a coincidence because Genesis knew and lured him there.

You know I've never actually checked that site out. I must do so. :)

This makes me lol because I am always stuck on that site. I used to be that way with Wikipedia, but after discovering TV Tropes I completely forgot about all other wiki sites. Hell, now whenever I'm at a movie/see a tv show/read/etc, I just start thinking of tropes that it follows. That's messed up but fun. :monster:
