After watching District 9 I had to go back and watch his Halo short films again, and god it was awesome, what a major fuckup by Microsoft. You can see the filming techiques used in District 9 in the shorts, but what got me most was the absolute authenticity and visceral action of them.

I don't think Microsoft will ever get anyone better than Blokamp for the film. You can view the shorts here in their entirety:

It got me excited for ODST and hoping it's good fun. Also, this thread isn't for people to complain about how much Halo sucks, so if that's your intent don't bother. You'll be reported for trolling.

Speaking of ODST, the Vidocs were awesome and I'm really looking forward to Nathan Fillion's involvement, his voice action is spot on. Being a Firefly fan, it's got me very interested. The desperate measures vidoc is the one featuring Fillion.

I met the voice actor of Master Chief on Sunday. My friend and I were first in line. He was super nice and signed a bunch of our stuff and took a picture with my friend.

As for Halo itself, I really like Halo 3 and it's the game that made me confident to try more FPS and find out I'm actually not bad at them. I normally play with a couple of friends once every couple of weeks.

Halo Wars was a lot of fun and I thought it was a good RTS on a console.

Looking forward to ODST, Firefight sounds pretty awesome.

That's the first time (as far as I can rememeberer) that they've actually paid attention to that, .

Clip looks nice, but not really original. Okay, it's been a while since a serious 'space marine' movie (or series?) was made (last I remember was either Starship Troopers (which was nothing like the book) or Space: Above and Beyond, and both are probably more than ten years old now . Speaking of, I just read up on that, and it only ran for a single season, :/. It was shown a few times on TV over here, and we thought it was pretty win. Oh well.

I'd heard some good things about the Halo 3 marketing campaign, but I hadn't actually seen the trailers and stuff until recently.

I thought that the Halo film wouldn't have worked, but then I finally saw the "Believe" website (that thing takes me ages to load) and I reckoned that if they were going to do it, that could have been a great way to do it. Everything aside from the Master Chief as a character, from what I've seen, would have turned out really good according to the live-action footage.

As for the Believe website, I led myself into it and once I did, I found it ridiculously immersive, although a little cheesy.

Unfortunately, actually playing some of the game, it didn't feel as gritty and warlike as the trailers and promotions, being shiny and saturated and lush pretty much everywhere. I think the lighting attributed a lot to this. If Halo 3 had the same atmosphere like its live-action promotional footage, I would have found it an even more interesting game to play.

Yeah I didn't really want to go there, just popped out as a followup. I loved the game, I just think it could have benefited more from a different atmosphere.

And I also thought the books were pretty bitchin' rad, although I never really found it that necessary to read Dietz's novel. But that's a personal thing.

But on that note, I'm looking forward to Reach, and to an ever-so-slightly less extent, ODST. It looks like a nice opportunity to make an even cooler HUD, if what I've seen of the shots is correct. Also, itty-gritty non-superhero protagonists are a nice change =D

I, too, am very much looking forward to ODST. <3 Not long to go now. I live in New Zealand, so it's only about four hours until the midnight release. And while I won't be attending that, I am picking up my copy first thing after school tomorrow.

I'm probably most excited about Firefight. What I've seen of it so far looks like tons of fun. Can't wait to experience it for myself. The campaign, though... I've been avoiding most information about it, since I don't want to be spoiled, but I'm a little bit iffy on the whole... y'know, lack of Master Chief. I'll just trust Bungie to take good care of things, I guess.

I'm actually cool with chief sitting this one out. But the more active and characterized leads make me wish they had developed Chief more as a character in the past games.

Well, I'm about halfway through the campaign now, and planning to finish it tomorrow.

And IT. IS. AWESOME. <3

The ODST characters are a lot more dynamic and interesting than the Chief and Arbiter, I reckon. And the whole "flashback" scenario is really neat, unraveling the mystery bit by bit - I like the fact that I get the opportunity to play as each of them, rather than just "the rookie". But the best part? The environment itself. Being able to explore wherever I want is cool, but mainly I love the "tense and desperate" feeling that the whole game creates. It's easier to get totally immersed in than the previous games.

Music is awesome. Graphics are awesome. Characters are awesome. Story is awesome. Gameplay is beyond awesome. New favorite Halo game? Maybe.

I still miss the Chief though. And all the neat gadgets that came with his armor. Like the motion tracker. I want my motion tracker back, damn it. ;_;
