it may just be because we've seen so much next gen stuff since it was first released, but didnt their announcement video look ALOT better graphically wise than it does now? graphics look average at best

You mean the one with the girl being interviewed in the kitchen? Folks say that's done in CGI.

^this. Graphics in a game are at a stage right now when it's possible to create (realtime) models right into the uncanny valley. Pre-rendered CG has long passed that stage, luckily.

I don't doubt though that, if the next generation of consoles will again raise the bar of graphics, CG-like characters or in-game real-time rendered sequences will become a possibility.
