Hey

Hey, everyone. I've been a lurker for a bit and decided to join up since this seems like a nice community. I used to love forums back in the early 2000s, but social media's made them pretty scarce these days. The pandemic's really been eating at me. I've gone practically a year with very little intelligent conversation. So many things have eroded my faith in humanity, optimism, and sanity. I thought it would be therapeutic to find a place to have some meaningful chats about Square games. Throughout the years, games like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts have been a rock for me. I felt like I was at the end of my rope after tons of things that happened over the past year. Then I got FFVIIR for Christmas and it's been a huge pacifying agent. I'd like to focus on that for a while.

Most of my IRL friends don't play these series, which is a shame. The very few that have played some of these games (played but not finished) frame their opinions based off social media influencers. It's really not fun trying to talk about the complexities of Cloud's psyche with someone who's too busy quoting negative tweets about how the game is "lame" because of XYZ shallow, whiny, one-lined complaint. That's not really what I'm looking for in a contemplative discussion.

Anyway, I just thought I would say hi.

Hi and welcome! Forums have a unique place as social media has risen (and is falling?) The TLS Discord is an awesome chat hub but specialized threads that endure and resurface is awesome (even if sometimes I shake my head at past me).

Welcome!

Forums are still very much alive. There may be fewer general forums but the specialized ones are thriving i find.

What I love most about forums is when you have a really great community, everyone writes such thoughtful and detailed replies. It makes having a conversation more engaging and informative. Plus the messages get neatly archived, so you can always find them with a simple search. Reading a good thread is almost akin to reading a good book.

I've noticed that as well, but I find that sometimes they just aren't as bustling as they used to be in their heyday. I remember a forum I belonged to in 2003 that had so many new postings per minute, that I just couldn't keep up with some topics lol. They moved so quickly that I couldn't get a word in edgewise or my post would get drowned out and unintentionally ignored. Ah, those were the days... lol.

I couldnt agree more. Conversations are crap these days. I struggle in a group when everyone always interrupts or speaks over one another. No-one has enough patients to let someone complete a thought on a subject. Also people tend to change subjects far to quickly in conversation these days.

That is true, but its fine by me because i dont have nearly the amount free time that i did in those days.
