How come Cloud and the others could hear the cry of the planet?

This was brought up to be and it got me thinking...

Why could Cloud and the others hear the cries of the planet in FFVII? Bugenhagen stated that only those who were close to the planet, or of Cetra lineage could hear the cries of the planet?

So how did that work out? Did the fact Cloud's team and all were fighting to save the planet, draw them closer to it, and allow them to hear it?

Why do you think that is?

While they were in the Forgotten Capital they have learned to listen to the planet. Like Aerith had learned to use the White Materia there. It's written in the Ultimania Omega - so technically Cloud and the party partly became Cetra.

You are a faggot.

Quit spamming in the thread that resulted in the very question you asked :monster:

I think its a good topic to discuss so I made it.

@Notorious M.O.G.

Plot exposition? You don't think there's more to it? It's a pretty important aspect of the plot.

@Cetra29

I don't think they literally became Cetra..I think that over the course of the adventure, their hearts opened up to the planet, and they learned to listen to it partially.

If what Cetra says is true, then that's the best answer. If it turns out Cetra is mistaken about what he/she posted, then yeah, it could very well be plot exposition. Welcome to JRPGs, no, fiction, rather. Sometimes things don't have an answer, unless you walk right up to the creator and squeeze one out of him.

They partly became Cetra when they have arrived in the Forgotten Capital and did all these things there. Cetra are either an own race with this abilities or just another culture with this abilities. So human can become Cetra as well - of course the Cetra were nothing but human-like creatures. After all the Cetra became the human race after they have lost their abilities (because almost all Cetra were killed by the virus of the JENOVA cell's and they've stopped being nomads).

I can show you the lines from the Ultimania if you want. That's no problem.

I always thought since they had a strong connection with Aerith, they had a strong connection with the planet as well. *shrugs* Aerith is a Cetra and she actually becomes a part of the planet so... communicating with her is like communicating with Mother Earth. :lol:

I think that's probably the best answer. That's a good one. ^^

And to all those yahoos who thank'd Dacon's second post in this thread... You're philistines and I'll never forget your faces.

I would certainly hope not, Kaiba-boy

ohohohoho ;3

Srs face -> overexposure to Mako seems most likely, since that's the lifeblood of The Planet, etc. =/

I dunno if that's really the reason. Sure, near Mako poisoning can probably make you hear funny voices in your head, but I don't think it would grant Cetra like powers. I think Celes got it pretty close.

Unless what Cetra said on the first page is true. I'd like to see that Ultimania page.

I don't mean, like, Mako poisoning levels. Just that they have a higher level of exposure than most people, given that they muck about inside of reactors, carry/level powerful materia that they have on them at all times, get attacked by crazy magical dead zombie guy, etc.

Maybe it was their will to save The Planet? Would explain why nobody else could hear it...wasn't anyone else standing up to Sephiroth, was there? Shinra wouldn't really count, since it just wanted him out of the way for moar Mako...only The Gang had the actual best interest of The Plant in mind.

Same here! ^_^ Otherwise, I don't know about Mako poisoning. Tifa, Barret, and the others never had Mako poisoning or over-exposure and they could still hear the cries of the planet. Zack never seemed to be able to communicate with the planet either. Their will to save the planet also included their strong feelings (especially Cloud's) to avenge Aerith, so I think being connected to her is very important.

But keep in mind they heard the planet way back in Cosmo Canyon, well before she died.

Hence my theory :P

I think it was more than just Aeris. In the case of Nanaki, it's hardly surprising, though.

Also worth noting is that the robotic catguy could hear it.

This is what I would say is the closest thing.

I wasn't joking about them not being able to become Cetra so easily. If you could just become a Cetra by doing something (someone said by visiting the Ancient Capitol), why would Shinra be so adamant about keeping Aeris, since she's the last of the Cetra? If you could become a Cetra so easily, they'd just all go to the Ancient Capitol or do what it took to become a Cetra, find the Promised Land, and not even care about Aeris.

There are a lot of little things in the plot that make me wonder. This is another one I hadn't thought of.

Well, that's true. But is there a time where they heard the planet without knowing Aerith? c: Perhaps it's a combination of being near Aerith(a Cetra) and having close encounters with Mako.

Aerith is not some goddess with a magical connection to everyone one beyond the fucking grave, come on people.

You make it sound like being cetra is contagious or something. Just being near Aerith is not going to give them the same capabilities as her, that's dumb.
