How could Galbadian soldiers in FF8 use magic?

Galbadian Soldiers were never using Paramagic in the first place :monster:

Para-magic is what's used by those who junction with Guardian Forces.

The magic soldiers used, is much weaker, and only wielded through an intermediary device that has been infused with magic.

Their intermediary device is their swords.

Yeah. The rules of magic in ff8 say your either a sorceress, have a gf equiped, or your a monster in order to use magic. If you notice though only the green clothed soldiers ever really used magic though in FF8 and you only fight them during the battle of garden.

This makes me believe that while galbadia has GF's perhaps they reserve them solely for the use of their more skilled soldiers and seperate the magic users into their own special units from the rest of the army.

I always thought it was weird how the galbadians don't outfit all of their guys with machine guns and just mow seeds and the student body down at will. It's not like they ever even said the garden kids had plot armor in the form of magic bullet proof shields or anything...

What I want to know is how Biggs, Wedge and the party can cast magic when they fight in the prison when not ten seconds ago we were shown magic cannot be cast due to an anti-magic field, and ten seconds after the fight they make the point to say "it's been turned off now".

If you watch the animations, the magic is generated from either their swords, or those nifty bionic arms.

Why would all of those groups be able to cast magic, anyway? I'm a little unclear as to where, exactly, the magic "comes" from in that game.

The Galbadian soldiers use para-magic. That's possible without GFs, but it's not as potent:

Dr. Odine
Started as a monster researcher. Discovered Guardian Forces (GF). With the
cooperation of a sorceress, became the first sorceress researcher. Analysed
the sorceress' magic, and created a method enabling a regular human being to
use para-magic. Balamb Garden uses the principle of para-magic, combining it
with GF's power.

That's awesome! They payed an insane attention to detail with VIII's setting.

Happens in FFXIII too, soldiers use 'mana-drives' to cast magic.
Just like Odine para-magic tools.
